I am a 16 year old who recently travelled to Germany on a school trip. I know i have little experience of travel but the thought of another visit to the hell hole that is JH Munchen sends shivers down my spine. The Breakfast consisted of cold stale bread and some sort of spam past off as ham. Dinner was no better with a menu of cold breaded fish adn chips that were as soggy as a wet piece of paper! The rooms where enough room to fit you and the dirt in and nothing much more. The trip to Munich was outstanding and i would do anyhting to relive it justa ina different location. P.S. everyone came back with spots due to the dirt.

I've been here 2 times arleady. Munich is a great place to visit and this hostel comes in handy. The showers are great, at least you get enough privacy and enough space to keep your clothes dry. The rooms are spacious, the beds okay. 2 sinks in each room, but the toilet is outsite the room. The breakfest is great, a lot to choose and tasty. This place lacks some real atmosfere, but the neighbourhood is kinda fun. There's a foodstore nearby and even a shopping mall. The roomkeys make a lot of noise at night, they could better install some electronic system.

We ended up staying here because we had no other place, but it was not a bad stay at all. The location is a bit outside of the center of town, but I found that to be very refreshing. It's an easy trip back into the centre, and the area near the hostel is nice. The breakfast was great, and the staff was nice. One thing though, you can't take a shower past 10 pm. We found this out the hard way....after a bike tour in Munich and going for a swim in the park, we really needed a shower, and couldn't take one because the shower's were locked at 10.

This is one of the best hostels I have been too. It is well organized and very clean. The showers are good, the bathrooms are good, the breakfast is good, the staff is average and the location is nice and relaxed. There is a metro nearby to easily get around the city. It was a beautiful change for an HI hostel after our terrible HI hostel experience in Paris.

This is one of my leats favourite hostels. It was clean and secure, but too much like a prison for my liking. The staff were not the friendliest, there was no atmosphere, and seemed to be full of German schoolkids. Its not the kind of place where you are likely to meet other travellers.

And its a long way from the centre.

First of all, after the choas and seediness of Rome, Munich was like a fairy tale. The hostel is located on a pleasant tree-lined street (most of the streets in Munich are extremely pleasant) and is close to a supermarket, a couple of bars/pubs with a ridiculously large variety of beer to choose from, a laundrette in case the hostel's machines aren't working, and at least one good Italian restaurant. The washrooms and dorm rooms are in fact extremely clean, with plenty of hot water, and the eat-all-you-can breakfast is worth getting up early for! The staff are polite, speak excellent English, and are friendly enough when you consider the hundreds of backpackers moving through every day. Like most HI hostels it doesn't have the same friendly feel as smaller private hostels but you know you can expect cleanliness, hot water and a good breakfast. Location is good - the Hirschgarten (massive beer garden) is a stroll away and the metro system is superb, with a stop just at the end of the street. A good place from which to enjoy Munich.

If this is the HI hostel that is advertised as a castle and sounds really great, then it is the one that I am thinking of. However, this hostel is not so great. The people working there were nice enough, but not helpful and we found tried to hide from us the downsides of the hostel. Such as there being absolutely NO hotwater for the showers or sinks. The other people in the hostel were unfriendly and kept to themselves. They all seemed to be German because no one spoke any English around us. In our quad-room there were huge moths, a spider, and little flies everywhere. The washrooms were dirty and unpleasant. It wasn't overly expensive but considering you don't even get a shower out of the deal-it is AWFUL. I wouldn't recommend this hostel to anyone.
