I stayed there for 4 nights, in a 2-bed room. I guess that every room is equiped with a convenient washbasin, and I also appreciated the omnipresence of wood material. Add the snow on the trees outside and you can feel how close you are to the Alps. However it seemed like there was only one shower per dozen rooms, and it's certainly a real problem in the busy season. As a big hostel it is rather noisy with the early hustle and bustle resonating along the wide corridors. Mind the 9:30am check-out limit and you'll understand that they prefer early birds. The breakfast is really well done, just be aware that you may have to queue for it - if you could see buses parked outside! The location is quiet, beautiful and woody, with a scenic church nearby. I can confirm, this church does ring early, but from the 2nd morning I was used to it and felt it contributed to the mountain town ambience. Thanks to the U-Bahn (just a 5-10 min walk to the station) the city centre is quickly and easily accessible, though those trains could be more frequent.

Just a two minute walk from Weiner Wald (best fast food in Munich :P )... very clean hostel... good free lockers in the rooms (quad bunk beds)... showers on the floor, push button, decently clean; the hostel itself is beautiful and huge, there is a fee if your are not an HI member; the breakfast is the best part... all you can eat, best breakfast I've had in my life, no joke. They have every kind of breakfast food imaginable and like 3 kinds of drinks; cool lounge area and a small laundry room. Staff is young and friendly, and it's a short uphill walk from the Thalkirken station... just don't get locked out! I can't wait to stay there again!

I found the staff were very informative about the city and ready to provide recommendations. It was not as busy as many other HI hostels I have stayed at in the past(which was very strange since it was high season summer.) The breakfast was great. Also, it was in a convienent location to the underground (with signs pointing out the way to the establishment along the way- great when your looking for it upon arrival!) The only major draw back was the expensive internet access.

this place wasn't so bad for an HI hostel. the staff was young and very talkative. there was a huge breakfast included in the price, which was all you could eat. it was kind of far from everything, but set in a quiet place. easy to get to by metro. the rooms were big. there weren't a lot of people to meet other than the staff, but if you are only passing through munich this is a good place to stay. (if you are under 26 that is, otherwise they won't let you stay.)

This Youth Hostel has several frustrating features. Firstly the showers are stop and go, you have to keep pressing the button. Secondly there is a church nearby that starts ringing at 6am, every 15 minutes until 8pm. You can hear the church from every bedroom. Thirdly, the staff are not dedicated to making your stay the best. They charged us an extra fee because we were not members, but did not give us any stamps towards our membership cards. They kept our key-deposit of 20 Marks, when we returned for our luggage and deposit after a day in town they said there was no way of proving we had not been given the refund earlier. Also you can only stay there for three days, so we had to move on after three nights, despite having nowhere else to go.The Youth Hostel does serve a fantastically big breakfast, and you can smoke anywhere outside of the rooms, and it is a secure roof over your head within 20 Minutes of the city. Unfortunately Munich has a major accomodation shortage, so travelers feel they are lucky to be able to get rooms at this hostel.
