I just got back from Munich yesterday, and I stayed at The Tent for 3 nights. I wish I could have stayed longer. I arrived about midnight on a Thursday, and was greeted by a bonfire surrounded by about 50 people drinking beer and having an awesome time. I checked in (8.50 euro for a mat and as many blankets as you need), put my stuff in a locker, bought a couple beers, sat down and immediately started talking to people.

Travelling by myself, I was a bit apprehensive, but staying at The Tent was my best experience so far in Europe. I met so many different people from so many different places. Everyone is really friendly and open, I definitely would reccomend this place to someone travelling by themselves and looking to meet new people.

As far as the facilities go, the name speaks for itself. Its a tent... a big white circus tent with a wooden floor. You get a mat and as many blankets as you need. There are lockers around the outside of the tent for you to put your stuff in (locks not included, but they sell locks for 1 and 2 euro at the front desk). There is also a smaller tent with about 40 bunk beds (11 euro), but I chose the floor just for the experience. Places to setup your own camping tent are also available for 5.50 euro. The bathroom facilities were surprisingly clean and very nice. There is a communal kitchen where you can store food and cook dinner. They also have a canteen type place where you can also buy food and drinks. Breakfast is included in the price of the bed - can't beat that!

As far as location goes, its 15 min by tram from the main train station - not exactly in the city center, but I didnt mind it at all. It is worth it to be staying there!

One thing I should clear up is that you don't need a reservation to stay there (except groups of 15+). I talked to someone who tried to book online and it said that they didnt have any rooms available, but that is just because you can't book online. There are ALWAYS spots available. The beds seemed to fill up quickly, but there is plenty of room on the floor.

Overall, I would highly reccomend this place to anyone looking for an awesome time and a cheap place to sleep. The people staying there come from all over the place - I hung out with people from Australia, Ireland and the US, just to name a few. One night, a group of about 30 of us all went out to the club together and came back at 7:30 am! What a great time...STAY AT THE TENT!

The tent is basic, but anyone can handle it, it is only 9 euro! The breakfast alone makes it worth it. The tent is a fun place to get to know people, and if you stay longer than a couple nights you get to know the staff and they are hilarious and friendly. Sure, you do sleep on the floor, but you get tons of blankets and a mat. When I saw it initially it was not what I had expected, it was much better. It can get a little cold at night, but if you drink a few beers by the fire before going to bed it isn't bad at all. I will definitely be back to the tent, it was one of my favorites

Not a bad place, but you have to be a bit "out doorsy." By this time in my travels I was used to being grungy, so walking around on dirt, wasnt a big deal. I had a bed (cost a few euro more) but was worth it. Not the best bed, but it beats sleeping on the floor of a big tent with 60+ people. Even my tent was rowdy. Tents provide no noise protection. I only stayed here because it was the only place open. I wouldnt stay here again, unless I had too. Oh yea, I didnt risk a cold shower, so i showered later in the evening or early morning.

Well I spent 6 weeks in the summer of 2002 here and it can?t be beaten. As i was there for 6 weeks I met some of the best characters from all over. This place is made for the more outdoors kind of person who can spend a couple of night without a real bed. There are beds available though but they're usually full and cost just a bit more. If you?re looking for a quiet, comfortable night stay away, this place is for the fun loving traveller who wants to have a good time.

Toilets facilities can get a bit dirty, a bit of muck on the floor, but not unhygienic. You would want to be an early riser if your bothered about a hot shower as the Americans usually use up all the water pretty early. Or you can wait till the showers haven?t been used for a bout an hour and till they heat up again.

But all in all, it was a great experience, and highly recommended. Don't just spend one night; get to know some of the other travellers and the staff. Its well worth it

I had a great time staying at the tent. Most everyone was really cool. The place is something like a cross between beer garden and camp ground. They sell pints all night long and everyone sits around a campfire at night. If you use the tram its really easy to get there.

It's a tent. It was a little cold at night, even in July when I was there. But the staff would give you all the extra blankets you wanted. Don't expect to get the best nights sleep or a warm shower. There was hot water, but only for about 3 hours in the morning. Overall, though, I would go back, as long as the weather is fine.

Hey, it's an experience. Loud, obnoxious, dirty, ridiculously small lockers and unusable bathrooms/showers, but overall good fun and a roof over your head for under 10 Euros. Just make sure to stay someplace quiet and clean the next night, because you probably won't sleep very well. Breakfast isn't too good and the place is halfway to Denmark on the S-bahn so plan accordingly.

The Tent is the worst place that I have ever stayed at. The staff don't care at all about the people staying there and take numerous breaks. You are not allowed to check in until 4:30 pm so if you get there beforehand you can do nothing but wait. The shower and toilet facilities are dirty and practically unusable. The beds are dirty and the blankets provided are scratchy and provide no warmth. Stay away.

The Tent is basically a large function tent in the middle of the Botanical Gardens. You can choose a thin foam mattress or a bed for only a few marks more. Breakfast is included in the price of both. Food is available to buy or there are kitchens to cook your own. Every night there's a bonfire and the general atmosphere is great. Drawbacks are that it can get very cold at night, and the toilet and shower facilities aren't particularly good, although they are adequate.
