I stayed in this hostel in March 2005 and found my stay a pleasant experience overall. The place is clean, staff are friendly. It's right opposite an U-Bahn station, so transport is no problem at all.

The only two problems I had were with the showers since they're not very strong and the temperature varies - and when a guy came into our dorm at 4am and emptied his bladder in a corner (again, the staff were very helpful when this happened).

So , I'd say BaxPax is recommendable to a certain extent, unless you accidentally end up in a dorm with a couple of drunken freaks - but I guess that could happen in any dorm anywhere.

Location is not bad - near restaurants/bars and transport. Staff here are super cool as with the music they play in the reception/tv area. Hostel badly let down by its dimly lit 1970's style rooms It is also an unusually quite hostel for such a big city - when I was there in August it seemed empty.

The hostel isn't that central, but as others have said it's right near an U-Bahn station and really close to the Ostbanhof. It's big and reasonably clean, except for one thing. I was the lucky one who got to sleep in the VW Bug which was nice and roomy. Problem? There's bed bugs. Lots and lots of them. I'm now covered in bites from the itchy little devils, and it's all thanks to BaxPax. Great hostel, just be wary of the beds.

Ok, this is not what I'd call "central" for all Berlin, but it's in the very centre of Kreuzberg, and Kreuzberg rocks, dude! most important punkrock-clubs are pretty close to baxpax and a good recordstore's just round the corner. Additiomally, the hostel is very close to the underground and to a good and cheap Doener-Kebap place. The hostel itself is nice, clean and the staff is friendly.

I stayed at BaxPax in December 2003. The showers are scalding hot. Not just a little hot, they burn, and are a health hazard. When I asked if there was anything I could do to adjust them, I was advised to let the shower run for about 15 minutes and the hot water would run out, and I would be able to have a cold shower! So obviously they are aware of the problem - well fix it!

Its a shame about the shower, because otherwise its a great place to stay. But for me, a good shower makes a good hostel, and this one doesn't cut it.

Stayed at BaxPax in November, the hostel was almost empty... The staff is very nice and friendly! The beds are big and comfi and showers and toilets really clean. There`s only one computer, but internet is cheap. The hostel is located in the turkish quarter of Berlin, quite a bit off the centre, but it`s right next to the u-Bahn station, so it`s no problem to get to the city. Supermarkets and Bars are in the neighbourhood and it`s really close to the East Side Gallery.

It you are travelling alone,it is a great place to meet people. The bar is a great starting off point if you are out on the town for the night. The staff are more than accomodating, the will point you in the right direction of decent night life and they will even help you find a cool place to stay for your next port of call.It is near enough most places with the U-Bahn station just across the street. If you dont enjoy your visit....there must be something wrong with you.

The staff were amazing, they made you feel so welcome. Ask them anything about berlin adn they'll help you out. I had my purse stolen and needed a bank. The guy at reception was so kind, he phoned around for me to find somewhere that was open. All of them were great. I stayed in a 16 bed dorm. it was fine. i went to bed relatively early but most people were out till about 4 or 5am and came in quietly and passed out.

They have a great kitchen and a bar (with pool table) to hang out in. It is perfectly situated outside the u bahn stop so easy to get around the city. Plus loads of cheap restaurants nearby.

My only complaint were the showers. They were evil. It was a one button push kind of operation and the water was scorching hot. So hot i almost burnt myself, very scary. Otherwise great place. I recommended it.

For those who travel alone, I can certainly recommend Mitte's. The atmosphere over there (thanx to the staff) is so relaxed and friendly and helpfull, it'll make you feel at home immediately. I slept very well (in the mixed dorm at the attic), everything was clean, and because of the big kitchen I didn't spend too much money on eating out (there are some supermarkets in the neighbourhood). The only thing I did not like was the price, but hey, I'm Dutch, it's almost my duty to complain about that sort of nonsense... But seriously, when visiting Berlin, go there.

Berlin is the best city I love it. The BaxPax is very cool and you can meet interesting people eating beans (and bean flipping) in the kitchen. Thanks to Dave the love doctor they're from Canada.
