I hate this place.

Its too big, its a HI hostel, when I stayed here in 2002 I was really pleased to get myself a bed, as it was one of thosewere the receptionist ummm's and rrrr's for a couple of minutes to see whether they have a bed for you. In the end they did and I went, as you do, straight to my room to stick my bag in. When I got to my 8-bedded room at around 5pm I didn't expect the sight that I saw, all 7 other people that were staying in the room was on their beds. Fair enough, they all must be tired I thought, but sweat was pouring out of every pore, some were mummering unhearable words, others just lay motionless. I thought I had walked onto the set of Outbreak 2 . I said an hello, but got no relpy, threw my bag onto my bed and left, I didn't ever want to go back into that room again. Everyone looked totally ill and I had convinced myself that if I had slept in there I would catch what ever it was they had. Looking back now, having stayed in a fair few hostels since then, the disease I was looking at catching was called, "hostelbordessim".

The trick to aviod catching this "disease" is too stay away from the people in the room, only go to sleep in the room when you are sure that every one else is asleep and get up while they are still sleeping. If you are unfortunate to come in contact with one of these "hostel bores" then avoid eye contact and a conversation with these people. Stick to these rules and you should be fine.

Seriously though, this hostel was a load of poo, aswell as the ill people (some of which is true), there were a load of American kids, who were over playing baseball. One of them that I had the misfortune of catching a glimpse of looked like that kid out of the movie, "The Burbs", you know the young one with the eye brows. Well his dobbelganger was in this hostel at the same time as me.

That must be a good enough reason to give it a one star.

Ok, so if you're a friendly backpacker like me and want to meet new people and chill out, don't expect that here. They are really nice at the front desk, gave us maps and info- (as all HI hostels should with the price you pay), but woah have I ever seen so many school kids in a hostel before?

One thing I've learnt about budget backpacking is always look for a hostel with a kitchen- plus you eat fairly healthy. No kitchen here though they provide meals but are overpiced- breakkie is free though! However, if you go out in the Sachausen area nearby there is this great chinese/thai restaurant that we paid 3Euros and got a massive meal each- wicked food! One of the local bars also has a free beer /shot of baileys every time they play a U2 song - we sure loved bono!!

Beds and showers lovely and clean, central location but the atmosphere was ruined by loud brats everywhere, so know what you're gonna be dealing with. No nice common area either.

But I loved Frankfurt, so give it a go. And you never know, maybe you'll get lucky when school's out!

I did not want to stay at this hostel because of the bad review below. However, what won me over was the price and the close proximity to the central railstation. I arrived at this Hostel on Dec 26 from a flight from JFK(NYC) I had an reservation so check in was a brease. I booked for the 8 bed room dorm. nevertheless, i was given a 3 bedroom dorm. the bath room as well as shower were inside the room and were separated. internet cafe is downstairs which is dirtcheap, the cheapest so far in my month long backpacking trip. over all i give this place 5 starts. is close to trainstation, is safe, and cheap.

This was one of the best places I stayed while in Europe. It was very clean, the rooms were huge as were the lockers. The beds were comfortable and warm and the rooms have a heater.

It is a huge place and probably would get a little noisy in peak season, though it was quiet for me. The showers are clean and hot. The washing machines were a little hard to find, they are in the male wash room on the 2nd floor. The breakfast was excellent. stay here.

Location is great, Rooms are okay. But if you want to go out on the evening and have a lie in forget it, in a three day stay 9 people came in the room from teh Hostel to ask if we are staying another night etc...

Breakfast is a bit poor.

Also they state their is a curfew but this does not seem to come into play.

I think this is also the only cheap hostel in Frankfurt so call in advance to make a reservation..

The Pros'

1.) Staff are really nice, the Turkish snackbar guy lent me his guitar to play and we we're all singing a few minutes later.

2.) Not too institutional and beds are nice.. Big lockers too!! And hostel is in a good neighbourhood.

3.) Clean bathrooms and has onsuite washing machines/dryers..

4.) bfast - not bad... pretty small too, but OK

Cons:

1.) midnight (or 1 am?) curfew

2.) the common area is quite small..

3.) quite a walk from town when you're really drunk..

4.) you can get the occational noisy kindergarden groups check in

A giant hostel that actually manages to not feel institutional. A great breakfast buffet including in the price (only 15 euro per night) and if it hadn't been for the coughing man beside me, I would have slept very comfortably. An "interesting" neighbourhood with plenty of cheap food and internet nearby. The only thing I didn't like was that they left all of the windows open and these little (harmless) bugs seemed to be everywhere.

The hostel was very clean. There were big lockers you could store your stuff in. Very clean bathrooms and showers. Only thing was that we were there when renovation was going on. Not a big problem, but we stayed on the 3rd floor and women had to go down to the main floor to shower or even use the restroom. BUT, when the renovation is done, it should be immaculate! Have a piece of mind after booking at this place. We had read reviews that warned us that a siren wakes everyone up at the crack of dawn. Never happened. They also said the people that worked there were rude and military-like. Not true. Overall great hostel!

We stayed at this hostel on three occassions during the trip and the facilities are excellent. The rooms have keycard access. There are large lockers and the staff is excellent. As for location, it is not a far walk to Romerplatz and it is extremely close (1 block away) from a touristy bar/pub area. It is definitely one of the best hostels we stayed at during our trip.
