The staff was very unfriendly and unhelpful. The hostel is too big as well. Out of the whole hostel I only found one other single traveller. I was very dissapointed in the whole atmosphere of this place. It seemed like there were more German Highschoolers than anything else and they didn't really care to talk with anybody rather than their friends. It was also a little farther from the city center than they had led me to believe. So combined with the atmosphere and the location I have to say this was the worst hostel I stayed in all of Europe.

This hostel is not really what you expect after all that bragging about. I went there in November 2005 (two weeks ago) and was disappointed.

Yes, it is clean and there is free breakfast, but that is all to it. The hostel stuff is the first unpleasant thing people should be warned about. The receptionist person (the bald guy) is probably the most frustrated person I have met in a long time. He hates people and youngsters and he is fed up with his job. He is not able to respond to any of customer's requests without rude, grumpy and cynical comments.

He should be fired or resign before he gets heart attack.

The other thing is a noise. There are young people there with hormonal outbursts and they scream and shout the entire night in the hallway making sure they wake up everybody who thought the hostel is NOT 24/7 party place.

Don't take your children there!

Nice, big, clean hostel. Too big though, lots of snotty German school kids, who always jumped at the chance to let me know what they thought of the English.

Rooms are 4 bedded with its own bathroom, they are a bit cramped though. Reception sells beer and other crappy stuff.

Its just your standard, run of the mill, German HI hostel.

Hotel standard facilities & huge breakfast

Positives - the rooms & the bathrooms inside are extremely clean & of a hotel standard; the breakfast has to be seen to be believed - enough that you don't need to eat for the rest of the day; there is a shop by the reception desk that sells food/drink snacks; staff are very friendly; within walking distance of the train station.

Negatives - the place is enormous & caters to large groups so you are more likely to find yourself amongst heaps of children than meeting any other solo travellers; expensive - from memory it cost around 24 Euro per night with an HI card.

All the guidebooks tell you to take the train to get to this hostel, but it's within easy walking distance of the train station. Just walk across the big bridge over the river and it's a couple of blocks away. This place does indeed cater to the kiddies, but the facilities are sparkling and the walls are thick enough that the screaming hordes of children aren't that annoying.

I arrived here late at night, and despite being very tired after travelling all day, I couldn't get to sleep with all the twelve year olds screaming in the hallway. I had no complaints with the room which was pretty standard, also, it had lockers for each person and the communal showers/toilets were ok too. Breakfast wasn't that nice - chunky cornflakes which really weren't very appetising. I wouldnt rush back to stay here again, but I have seen worse.
