Bathroom was dirty and smelly, no heating or lockers in the dorm. Corridor and room needed cleaning and refreshing... Free internet and nice staff though, I liked the late check out policy. Good location too.

I booked this hotel and later started to read negative reviews on here about it and was worried , i did notice though that the negative comments were looking like from one person. So here is my review, Im 48 self employed , so immy own company so i pay my own hotel bills , I prefer to suppor this kind of cheap comfort. Nice people Nice bar area free internet helpfull positive, city center over night stay for 37 Euros inclusive shower and toilet, or 30 Euros for a shower and toilet on the corridor, after further inspection very clean comfortable bed and not very loud outside at all. the bar was cheap almost street kiosk price and a lounge is under construction. in the same street as a few top international hotels. and by the way i have stayed in a top chain before now and found that for ten times the price ,all i really needed was a bed and a shower. not snobby attitude because i wasnt in my business suit and full of the usual plannet killers, support it or lose it i say. well recommended and not far away from the fun in town. Just do It ,dont expect room service , page boys ,lift man , but clean bedding every day if you want ,clean bathroom and toilet and friendly helpfull people , ohh i did find a dead fly on the window ledge though...

My main complaint goes to the blocked toilet within the unisex bathroom on my floor. Also, there are no hooks to hang your clothes and towel inside the shower (or outside, for that matter).

My room was reasonably spacious but cold since the heaters were largely non-functional.

The so-called free internet was seldom available. I have seen people sitting at the computers (with something like computer games on the screens) while chatting away with others.

Dirty Rooms, Ugly Beds (Blood on the mattresses and more of abnormal hire) Very Clean Bathrooms? I didn't saw anyone, just a Room full of Water (a real mess) with stinky Toilet (You don't want to know what was there). The Bed frame broke just I sad on it, Yes what a GREAT Bed. The Volume was extreme, one heard everything and everyone, doors slammed even at night, Yes I want to sleep at 4am...But when you like pest, bugs and spiders with a fine and small note of a prison. Then go to Hostle Colonge.

Location is fantastic, I arrived at almost 11pm and was really happy to find that the hostel is 2 blocks from the main train station and is walking distance to almost all of Cologne. No bunk beds (definitely a plus), private bathrooms and showers throughout. Helpful staff who give you maps and walking tour maps (nice to see a hostel not try and sell you someone's walking tour, you can do these on your own, v. helpful). Best part was probably that the common area is at the front door, so you can hang out, buy some cheap beers and meet the other travellers (I was solo so this was a big plus), you can also see those people in the morning if you wanna do stuff together. Free internet is also a big bonus. Clean and secure, though if you use a safe use one with the keys, not the one with codes (I think I heard someone who used a code safe got ripped off, probably by somone who checked out a while ago).

An inexpensive hostel at a great location. But other than that, this one is only moderately recommendable. Stayed here for two nights in november 2005. Sanitary facilities were extremely rudimentary (half of them seemed out of order) and a good cleaning job wouldn't hurt either. The place seemed completely swarmed with school groups of 14-year-olds from France running through the corridors and screaming. Free sheets and internet were a nice pro, but all in all I've slept in better hostels. Still, this is pretty much your only real option west of the Rhine.

Oh, and although I can't blame the hostel for it, I absolutely HATED the snoring guy during my first night! This man was noisy like you wouldn't believe.

I stayed there for almost six weeks during July and August and the stuff was very forthcoming. The place is in a brilliant location, prices are decent. Hygiene of bathrooms could be improved, but that isn't unusal in a hostel.
