I too stayed here after being taken for a ride at a pension in town. This hostel is very basic but the price is great (especially after that first night). The beds are comfortable and the showers are warm. You can walk to the ruins from the hostel (actually the town is so small you can walk to just about anywhere from the hostel). I found everyone I talked to in town to be very nice...except for the old hag running the pension. The ruins can be done in a few hours, you don't need to spend the night in town, move on.

My review of this hostel may be abit biased in that when I first arrived in Olympia, I stayed at a horrible overpriced pension (Achilles) with no heat and only cold running water. It was nice to get out of that place and move to a more comfortable setting at the youth hostel.I found the hostel to be nice, clean and very affordable. The shower/bathrooms were rather interesting but at least they had hot water. The people running the hostel were also very helpful with information about Olympia and bus schedules (Tourist Office was closed). Personally, if I did Olympia again, I would do it as a daytrip and move on to my next town since there really isn't much to see except for the ruins and museum (this may change during 2004), though they do have the most friendliest people I have met.

The ruins of ancient Olympia are a must onanyone's Peloponnese agenda. And it is fantastic. But this hostel is very average, and the town ofOlympia made me wish we had just gone on toPatras that night. Location for the hostel is nice, a short walk fromthe site. But the facility itself gave off a somewhatdilapidated feel, with particularly displeasing beds. The bathrooms were OK, and we met some coolpeople. All told, it is a nondescript place to stay onenight in an extremely boring tourist town. Avoid thegyro stands. In June 2002 the price was 7 euros plus 1 for sheets.
