Room was so discusting and smelly that we couldnt even bring ourselves to stay there one night after we saw the room, even though we were waiting for the ferry overnight. The owner would only give us 5 euros back from the 20 we paid (it is 10 euros a bed, not 6) but we were happy to get out of there. STAY AWAY UNLESS YOU WANT TO STAY IN FILTH. Would give no stars if i had the choice.

It's not the cleanest of places and it now costs 10 euros. I've been paying at least 18 euros in most towns I've been in Greece because hotels seem to be the norm rather than hostels. For what you get for the price it's not that bad in comparison to the hotels. The shower is hot eventually and most travellers have there own sleeping stuff anyway. Patras is worth a stop and until people come no other worthwhile option will emerge. Try travelling in India!

The dorm costs 10 euros, sheets are 50 cents each (no pillow cloth), there were no blankets. Sleeping bags won't help much in summer, because it's so hot in the rooms that you'll find yourself sleeping on the dirty mattress.

Bathrooms are dark and small, so it feels a bit spooky.

It's an old house that would need lots of repair or at least some more cleaning.

But it's convenient if you're staying 1 night, while waiting for the ferry or train.

When you come out of the port or train station to the main street, turn left and walk along the street for about 1 km. You'll find the hostel on the right side of the street.

OK for one night, not good for longer visit, October 8, 2003

The Patras Youth Hostel should be visited by those guys, who have to wait for their ferryboat one day - just like it happened to me. Advantage: The Hostel is close to the port and the train station (15min walking) and easy to find. Seeing the central square from the port or the train station you just have to turn left and follow the major street. It will take you there. The owner speaks rather good english. Problems: Dormitory is not really clean, blankets are not free (50 cents), no possibility for buying stuff for breakfast, no possibility to lock the doors. Disappointing: The bathroom (2 showers for 2 dorms) is dirty and one cannot feel comfortable there. A longer visit shouldnt be planned anyway, because there is almost nothing to see in Patras.

The price is not 6 but 9. I staid there for one night. They where working so there was a lot of dust. The owner is friendly and there are blankets available. In the morning you need to get your bread your self but you can eat it at the youth hostel. Comfort is not high but for young people who only stay there fore less then a week it is alright.
