This guesthouse made me feel like home. I meant to stay 2 nights and stayed 9..... left for a week and I was once again back for more! Truly the best hostel i have stayed in around Europe. very Frýendly staff! Great common room and just generally such a cool place to chill or party dependýng on what you like to do..... Thýs place has great character! Even if they have no beds free they wýll find you a place to sleep! U can even camp in the garden or sleep in a hammock! Will DEFO be there again soon! I have recommended to many people and each one has agreed they love it!!!

Budapest is smelly, noisy and ugly. But I often went there just to stay at this wonderful hostel.

i stayed here with my girlfriend in august of 2004. this was arguably the nicest hostel we stayed at in six months in western europe. the staff was extremely helpful, finding room for us on very short notice during their most crowded time of the year. it was a little hard to find, particularly arriving at night from vienna, but worth the walk. we stayed in a tent in the bankyard which was really cheap and nice and quiet. there is a fantastic kitchen, great information and close transportation. i would go back to budapest just to stay at this place.

We stayed in about 25 hostels all over europe and this was the best one. The facilities themselves were quite basic but everything was clean. The best thing about this hostel though were the common areas - they have a tv room, kitchen and a gazebo in the back garden - all of which were great places to meet people. The gazebo even has a couple of hammocks that you can chill out in - definitely a good way to spend a lazy afternoon!! The staff were really friendly and there is no curfew or lock-out. The hostel is about a 20 minute walk from the centre but i would say it is worth the walk!!

awesome staff

very noisy springy bunk beds.

toilets a bit grotty

Small kitchen but does the job.

It has its bad points, but makes you love it even more. A true backpackers hostel.

Small, cosy with friendly staff and a great place to get to mingle with all backpackers,i would highly recommend this Hostel. Rooms are a tight squeeze but who stays in their room all day anyway, its fine for a few hours kip. Great tv room where beers are served and you can order pizza..so if a chilled out night in front of a dvd is in order well you've picked the right place as they have hundereds of films to choose from. Location is fine and is near the outdoor nightclub which is a good night out.

We stayed an extra two nights and the majority of people did the same.

Budapest has a lot to offer and Backpackers Hostel will make your stay even more enjoyable.

I stayed here end of May 2004 for 3 nights. The hostel is quite a way out of the centre but if you follow the directions properly I don't see why anyone would have a problem finding it. It's just one simple bus journey from Keleti Station. I stayed in a four bed dorm downstairs, which was very dark and actually very cold but there was a bit of freak bad weather at the time. I had to queue/wait for the shower for a while each morning. There is a very relaxed atmosphere at the hostel, with the kitchen and tv lounge both very social areas and easy to meet people. The owners are travellers who appear to have been everywhere in the world. Budapest is a beautiful city and there were people in the hostel who had been staying for ages - couldn't seem to tear themselves away. If you're into tye-dye, wall hangings and henna tattoos you will fit right in.

I reserved a bed in this hostel a few days before I arrived but got there a few hours after my planned arrival time. I was unable to call and tell them I would be late. They had already given away my bed, but told me they could give me a mattress on the floor and if someone didn't show up then I would get a bed. Well, someone didn't show up and I got a regular bed, but I was a bit lucky. Some people have complained about the reservations but they treated me fairly. The point is be sure to confirm your reservation and let them know exactly when you are coming. If you are late, then call!

My stay at the hostel was great. The staff were all incredibly friendly and went out of their way to help. The people staying at the hostel were also great and the whole place had a family atmosphere. The dorm rooms were fine as far as a hostel goes, and were clean. The main bathroom usually required a short wait but there were a few other showers and bathrooms there to ease the load.

The location is inconvenient if you want to stumble home drunk from somewhere in the city, but during the day and evening, the public transport (bus or streetcar) gets you to all of the sights no problem within 20 min.

If you want to meet people and have a friendly, laid back place to stay for a great price, then this is where to stay in Budapest. I will definitely be going back myself.
