I've stayed in a heapa backpackers and this was alright...the staff were nice to me...and the lockers thing, at least it keeps peoples stinky clothes out of the room, so the rooms are always tidy...breakfast was crap and the 11pm lights thing is stupid, but it is a good hostel....

I stayed at the Best in August 2004. It certainly scores well on location, being next to one major station and close to a supermarket, and the breakfast is pretty good. The lockers are good - although it is a bit inconvenient having them outside the dorms. I would agree that the staff are efficient rather than over-friendly, but personally prefer that to effusive insincerity! I also found them as helpful as most hostel staff. The flat seems a bit chaotic, but does have a bit of character, and after the bland efficiency of some Austrian and German IYH places that can be welcome!!! I'd probably stay there again...

The good things about this hostel were cleanliness, a great breakfast included, and comfortable beds. However i didnt really feel very comfortable there, since i found the owners very odd and unfriendly. On arriving we were asked to read and aggree to the rules, which was fair enough. However the lights out rule at 11 is strictly enforced by first turning them out regardless of what anyone is doing, and then turning the electricity off so there is no chance of turning them back on in an emergency. You must keep all your things in a locker, which is very inconvienient. Located in a good spot right in the centre of the city. Do not accept groups of more than 5, since they might 'dominate' the place. We moved across the road to the Yellow Submarine the second night!

I'm a solo traveller and felt that I was in the boy scouts when I stayed here !!!! Rules, Rules, Rules !!!!The good things about this hostel is that its clean and in a good location. The bad, too many rules like light off at 11pm period, even if there is noone else about and if you have any questions your better off going to the info centre.Note: If you pay ahead, make sure to get a receipt or you'll get ripped off !!

I was initially pleased to find a hostel that advertised itself as "anti-party" and as having an 11:00 lights-out policy. However, the way this policy is enforced is outrageous. At precisely 11:00, and sometimes even a few minutes earlier, the male owner of the hostel burst into the room advertised as "women only," WITHOUT KNOCKING, and turned out the light without regard to whether anyone was in the middle of taking out their contacts, changing, etc. Women travelers, be warned that this is NOT a safe women-only space and that a man may walk in on you while you're undressing! As another reviewer mentioned, the common room of the hostel is the bedroom of the couple that owns it. They obviously resent the presence of guests and see them as intruders on their space, and do everything possible to remind them of this fact. When I was there they were surly, rude, and treated guests like 4-year-olds. Another big problem with this hostel is that breakfast is not served until 9:00. Since lights must be turned out at 11:00, this means that even if you sleep a full 8 hours and manage to kill a half hour in the morning by taking a shower, you'll still have to wait an hour and a half for breakfast! I ended up paying for breakfast outside the hostel as a result, so you may want to factor that in to your price calculations. The location is good, the place is cheap and clean, but the staff's unfriendly, disrespectful attitude made staying at this hostel a big bummer.

The hostel is actually a flat in a building. So, its not very big, and it makes you feel weird because the living room is actually the couple's living room, you kind of feel like the family's guest. Breakfast and beds are quite good, and there's no curfew (yes, lights must be turned off at 11 pm or midnight). Staff (the couple) is helpful if not necessarily friendly. There are lockers (you can rent your padlock), and you get your own room key. There is a room or two for couples or threesomes.. ehm trios. There's kitchen (yes, you also feel like using someones private kitchen). The hostel is quite close to Nyugati Train Station, but is definitely NOT a party hostel. Summer 2003, a dorm bed was 2500 HUF (with ISIC card).

The staff is NOT friendly at all. There's a rule that lights should be turned off at eleven. I was the only one in the room around 12.30 and one of the staff ran in the room and started shouting that he said the lights should be turned off. Fair enough, but I was the only one there. ???? Internet is expensive and the breakfast isn't very big. The price mentioned on this site is not correct. the cheapest room is 2700/per night/per person.

Just stayed at the Best Hostel last weekend and would definitely go back there again. Good location near the Nyugati train station, and accomodations were pretty much what you'd expect and ask for. Definitely not a party hostel, but why party in a hostel when there's so much to do in Budapest? Oh, and go to a bath house!!! I also think it was 4000 ft each for a double room.

This is a dobro, clean hostel with very friendly and helpful staff. Some people may find it a bit stuffy as there are quite a lot of rules and it isn't really a place for partying.Nevertheless, it is spacious, comfortable with plenty of facilities and is in a good location. A word of warning - don't visit the nearby 'Bank' nightclub: it is truly awful.

I stayed there in the summer of 2000 and it was very nice - homely, quiet (as opposed to the place across the street), the staff was helpful, there is access to internet, you get a breakfast, no complaints really
