I arrived at the hotel at three in the afternoon and at four I was already out again to find some other place. The first shock was horrible. All three dormitory were full of rubbish, old meal, half-ful bottles, the rubbish was on the floor, on beds, on tables... There was a dirty linen on every bed, a lot of dust on the floor, the fridge full of old meal, the kitchen looked like never cleaned, and the bathroom was like in a bad dream. I had to clean the toalette for 10 minutes before I could use it! Well... I am a sporty girl used to travelling but this was really much... Go to this place only if you are an Ukrainne worker or a group of boys who want to have a neverending party with bier, rests of food and old dirty socks everywhere!

This must have been the trip for having bad hosts. I encountered the rudest hostel workers I have ever met at this hostel. Although I stayed for three nights, only one of them was bearable because for the first two they put me in a bed that was broken in the middle and my back hurt for the entire day. Also, the guy who was running the place at the time kept barging in my room time after time (at 2 and 3 in the morning) and turning on the overhead light which was right over my bed. The shower situation did become a problem because there was only one, and the kitchen was so tiny that literally only a couple of people could be in it at once. However, it DID have character. And the Internet was free, although I couldnt access my AOL account. The location was excellent. No problem at all finding it.

I stayed there for three nights in July and it was great. The host was very nice and told us everything she could. The rooms are big and though they were not air-conditioned the hot nights were very comfortable. Clean sheets and everything, but one could find some amount of dust in the corners and behind the beds. If you are travelling alone you might not get much privacy as all the rooms are for several people. But they got individual lockers. The guesthouse has only one shower, but rooms for over 20 people I think. So unless you wake up early in the morning you could have to wait for some time. And yes, there was hot water. Two WCs, one for male only: very small with no basin, and the other for female only: normal sized with basin. Both were working just fine.Nice neighborhood, very quiet. About 10 min. from the city center. The metro is about 5 min. walk from the guesthouse and from there it takes another 5 min. to get to the city center with the metro. Internet café, local market and a strip club (for those who are interested) are all very close by. Internet is also available in the guesthouse.Overall a good and highly recommended place, at a very reasonable price.

Stayed here for 3 nights in mid July, after 2 nights on the Buda side of Budapest in some rather average student dorms. This hostel is located in what could broadly be called the 'centre' of the city, about 200m from a metro station and 400m from the River Danube- on a nice square with a pub and a bar on one side. The hostel seems to have been made from 2 or 3 apartments joined together, giving the layout a disjointed feel, with the one dorm through another and a third through the largish kitchen area. The dorms themselves have about 6-8 nice bunk/single beds and some studio-type upstairs bits with almost private rooms. In terms of facilities the place wasnt bad- although a 2nd shower would be nice in busy times (it was a good shower though). The kitchen has a large fridge and stove/oven and a TV, and along with the hallway (which has sofas in it) acts as the common room for this ~20bed hostel. One complaint I have is that the promised free internet was nearly always broken or in use.Overall I would recommend this place if you're visiting Budapest, on our visit we talked to quite alot of english speakers- although due to its small size you could be unlucky. If (When!) I return to Budapest though I think i'd checkout one of the other hostels such as Marco Polo.

just stayed at the museum hostel for three nights and found it to be really quite pleasant...the rooms were nicely designed, so you could have a bit of privacy, even in a dorm. the hostel is well located, near two metro stops and many cafes and restaurants. it is also within walking distance of the Gellert thermal baths. the receptionist was helpful and nice to talk to, and her english was good. another nice perk is that the internet is free, although there can be a wait to use the computer. really my only complaint was that the floors could use some washing, and the smoke in the entry way was kind of overwhelming. i held my breath every time i went in and out. but that might not bother some people, and the rooms are smoke free. overall i had a great time at this hostel.

I just spent one week in Budapest and was very lucky and glad to stay at The Museum Guest House. I found it a great hostel and strongly recommend it to anyone going to Budapest. (I never heard anyone complaining about bedbugs at all!) The hostel was packed and meat lots of cool people. The location is excellent -in downtown Budapest. The internet is free of charge! and I found the staff quite friendly. The hostel has an oriental style decoration and it gives you a feeling of being at home (with loft type rooms). There are many restaurants, pubs and sights in the area. No lock-out nor curfew, that made our stay in Budapest even better!

The best located hostel in Budapest. Close to bar areas, cultural centers (museums, theatres etc.) and green areas for the peace of mind, and you dont have to bother others or live through the rough experirence of facing an angry receptionist to get in the hostel, because there is no lockout or curfew. The rooms bear a touch of unique style: young, colorful, vivid. I have been here for couple of times and the coolest crowd was my company. Extras: massage, haircut, caving (a happening!!!), helpful infos about whats going on in the city, free internet. You will love it more day by day.

This hostel is in the best part of Budapest,The staff is very helpfull and friendly, People who are coming there, are very nice, I rally like to come again,But the cleaning is poor, and because of that; they have bed-bugs.More than two years now..They try to get rid of them, but bed-bugs are strong...And that's a pity, because everything else is great, but the reason I'm not coming anymore, are these little animals...and it's hard to find a cheap and nice hostel in this area..so; anyone who has any suggestions, please let me know!!ciganyleany@hotmail.com

No women, not even another person, just two guys sitting on the internet at the Museum Guesthouse. The hot water heater is working, just too bad there is no one here to see it. It is the end of February and my friend and I are the only two people here. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Occassionally you get to chat with a 17 year old girl from Wisconsin. That and the internet are the only free things here. If you come dont forget to bring lots of tea for the monkey. Beds are eh, some of the private rooms are cool if you bring someone. Its like a lair for you to lair all over her. Dont forget to go to Cha Cha Cha bar in the metro station. Best party in Budapest. Live shows in the kitchen on weekends at midnight staring Tibor and his monkey. Occassionally you get to participate. All in all the Museum Guesthouse is just ok during quiet season. Need a bed and some monkey love then this is your place.

We loved the museum 'castle' guest house. It is located in the grooviest part of one of the best cities in Europe. We had got originally sucked in by the so-called YHA hostel touts (who approached us on the train on the way in to Budapest!) but they put us in a HORRIBLE Uni dorm that was more expensive and restrictive than the museum guest house. The guesthouse is just that, more of a house than a hostel. If you are a couple make sure you book the double bed in the mezzanine loft area of the first room - its fantastic, like having your own room for no extra cost. There is free internet (just have to book in for it) and had the hot water heater been working I am sure the shower/bath is great. The kitchen is quite pokey and the satellite TV is in there so it can get crowded, but there are excellent and very cool restaurants around the corner. The staff are really nice too, we missed out on the massage but we seriuosly considered the cheap haircuts on offer! This hostel is right in the action, cheap and friendly!
