The Red Bus was a godsend form me. I enjoyed the staff and the atmesphere of staying at an independent hostel, the place is spotless, the staff cool and the price the cheapest in Budapest. A fantastic hostel.

this hostel is not a party hostel- you cannot be too noisy at night, however, its still a great place to stay. the staff is really friendly and helpful. The place is always full, with lots of cool people to meet. It has a clean kitchen and bathrooms, and a decent breakfast. The beds creak, and so do the floors, so bear that in mind at night....a great deal overall- also, dont forget to ask about and go to the Yellow Zebra while in budapest- its a backpackers resource/internet center which was a huge help!

Right. Well, I could not get into the original Red Bus hostel in Semmelweis Utca during most of my stay in Budapest, as its quite small and very popular, so I stayed elsewhere, but I stayed one night in the Red Bus 2 Hostel in District VII and I'll tell you about that since its not listed as a separate hostel :) You'll find it at Szövetség Utca 35 in Pest. Same price as the original Red Bus (2700 ft incl.) and breakfast thrown in also.Firstly, I heard about the 2nd one as I met, coincidentally, the owner, Monica, at her restaurant in Buda. Since these people are not very good at blowing their own trumpet, I'll do it for them. If you want a good, cheap Italian meal at a nice venue, then go to the Al Capone Restaurant and Pizzeria near to Moszkva Tér in Buda. Its just west of the square, at Szilágyi Erszébet Fasor 1, and its damn good. Well Monica told me that they were opening up a 2nd venue and I looked it up for my last night in Hungary. Its well located, get the #4 or #6 tram and get off at Wesselényi Utca, or walk up from Blaha Lujza Metro station, 3 blocks up Wesselényi and to the right. There is a well-known gay and gay-friendly dance club called Angel (Angyal) right next door so its bound to become popular with the Boys on a Friday or Saturday night. Just a very easy stagger from the club back to bed !The hostel is rather small but since it occupies an apartment on the 2nd floor of an old, but renovated building, its hardly going to be ultra spacious. Its very newly renovated, and hopefully will stay in good condition. The facilities are rather cramped but fine. The room was good, 6 bunks and reasonable space as compared to some places that I have stayed in. The showers were OK but only 2 for the guys (didn't check out the girls' facilities). So could be a problem if all the boys want to get cleaned up at the same time ! The common areas were small but adequate. They have internet (12 ft per minute) and a small kitchen, not much else to do at the hostel itself. BUT you don't go to Budapest to sit in your hostel all day, now do you ? Location is good, handy for tram, metro and even a troli down Wesselényi Utca if you can't be bothered to walk !The staff are really cool and friendly and speak excellent english, and are very knowledgeable. Oh, and its even got a washing machine. What more could you ask for. I met some really great people there also. I will definitely be back there on my next trip to Budapest.
