I would not recommend this hostel to ANYONE!!!! The hostel was in a shady neighbourhood far from the center of town (although relatively close to a major bus route) which had no convenience stores, grocery stores, or restaurants in sight. I wouldn't want to walk from the bus to the hostel alone at night! The double room I stayed in was run-down and not the cleanest.. but the bathrooms were by far the worst!! There only seemed to be 2 toilets in the entire place, which were always dirty.

There was one shower room (which was the only room with sinks) for males and one for females; the female shower room was always extremely dirty and a total distaster. There were always dirty toothbrushes and leaking shampoo bottles everywhere, and combined with the disgusting floor and shelf space, it was a very unpleasant room to shower in. There were 2 showers in the room, but they were only seperated by a small curtain. The floor seemed to be a permanent swamp; I couldnt wear shoes in there at all without them getting soaked. The door to the room didn't close properly and there was no lock. On several occasions, people walked into the bathroom while I was showering, and left the door open so the guys dorm room across the hall had a clear view.

Although I didn't stay in a dorm room, most of them didn't have doors that shut, so I saw what they looked like.. they were all really gross. In addition to people's belongings strewn all over, the rooms looked very dirty and smelled bad. There is no way I would be able to spend a night in one of those rooms.

The bar in the basement resulted in a lot of stupid, drunken hostellers, who were often extremely loud and crashed on the couches in the common rooms.

I had a load of laundry done, which was promised to be done that evening, but was still soaking wet when I got back to the hostel at 9pm. The staff didn't care at all and were exremely rude about it. In general, none of the staff seemed to really care about their jobs, and were often either drinking or sleeping.

If you are looking for a clean hostel in Budapest, FIND SOMEWHERE ELSE TO STAY!!!

Station was awesome. It wasn't the cleanest place in the world, and the staff weren't super-friendly (with the exception of Mark), but it had a really fun atmosphere.

My wife and I got a double room and liked Station just fine. The bar was open all night, and Mark gave us some really good advice to help us get around the city.

Nice, chilled out location on edge of Budapest.

Reception doubled up as a bar complete with resident hound, which seemed to be full of friendly staff and travellers all mixing well together. Most backpackers on way back from Croatia/Romania so are willing to pass on useful up-to-date advice/tips on those places.

Cheap food in local cafes nearby.

Close to Szechenyi baths (best baths in town) and 15 mins bus ride from Keleti station.

This is the most disgusting and terrible hostel I have ever lived in! The location is far out from the city centre (although accessible by public transport, so no big deal). I couldnt sleep the whole night because the whole room were filled with cigarette smokes, the bed smelled so bad you really worried if it were infested with lice at all, and the toilets - coed, and urine everywhere! Yuck! Showers are coed as well, with no lock, and only dirty transparent shower curtains separating the cubicles.

I couldnt wait to get out of there as early as possible in the morning. With only 1 euro extra, I lived in a far better and comfortable hostel, just right in the city centre. As for companions and party people, they are everywhere, not just in this bloody guesthouse.

For the price I was paying for that night, I would rather pay that 1 euro extra than spending my nights in a place equivalent to a dirty and filthy bus station.

Even one star for this hostel is over-exaggerated.

I stayed in a lot of hostels in Europe, and this one is the best one by far.

It may not be the cleanest place, but it is definitely the friendliest and more fun. The staff is really great and very helpul, there are parties every night, free pool table, cheap beer, a huge supermarket close at hand, etc. Everything you may need to feel like home. I stayed there 5 days, and I met a lot of great people. Watch out, or you may never want to leave the place (some people don't).

If I ever go back to Budapest, the biggest reason would be to stay there again. Make yourself a favor and go. You wont regret it.

This place is what hostels are supposed to be like: laid-back, friendly, a little grubby, staffed by freaks and characters. The only drawback may be that you don't quite make it to Vienna or Slovakia or whereever else you might have planned to visit en route. C'est la vie, man. Say hi to Todd, Mark and the rest for me.

I have recently been an exchange student for a year in Hungary and made regular trips to Budapest. I originally discovered the Station from the Lonely Planet and found it was the cheapest, and from my first visit fell in love with the staff, the facitities and the laid back atmosphere. The staff are lovely and oh so helpful, the rooms are cheap, and if you dont mind showers that arent crystal clean and rooms that you share, then do yourself a favour and ring the bell at the Station!!! Say hi to Mark for me!!!

If you like clean facilities and quiet atmasphere... this is not the place for you...

This place is run down and the floor smells and the recieption slash bar with pooltable which you have to pass if you want to get to the dorms... plays heavy metal till 4 am BUT the people are friendly and is great to meet and party with people ..

it's close to Hero's park and one of the big baths...

And it's cheap~!

Go and have fun
