I dont normally do reviews, but i was shocked at seeing all these bad reviews! Yellow Submarine is buzzing with friendly bohemian interesting traveller types. Yes a few doors are hanging off and the cleaning and breakfast regime is a bit 'easygoing', but its probably just because the staff have a bit of a hangover or their out buying some cheap wine. Its cosy and colourful, nobody goes out to clubs, they just stay in the kitchen, smoke, share food, and get drunk together. Its a wonderful atmosphere -stop all being so darn hygeinic!

We've just come back from 5 days in Budapest. When we got to the hostel they denied our reservations! But then they managed to find it again! The hostel is extremely busy, and reasonably clean, if you're fussy i would recommend taking a sheet sleeping bag, or regular sleeping bag. We had a fantastic time, most of the residents are friendly, breakfast a wonderful affair of everyone sitting down and chatting and eating! In short - this hostel wasn't the cleanest or most organised, but this was far outwieghed by the great cost, great location and great people!

What they present on their website is not as what actually is. We arrived at the hostel and found out that our booking was cancelled and we had to stay in a very small 6-bed dorm room. The staff was very rude, the room is very dirty. Inadequate shower and toilet facility. Water heating is not working well, you'll end up taking a cold shower. We don't understand how could they use "recommended by lonely planet" to endorse their property. It was a big mistake staying at this hostel. We had to go to visitor center to book another hotel, after spending one night at this place. What a nightmare!!!

Hostel had shady gypsy individuals staying there. Very poor, dirty, and cramped bathroom facilities. If they can get a higher price they will accuse you of lewd behavior and kick you out in order for a higher paying individual. Very impolite staff as if the country was still communist.

I am slightly suprised by the others views because i enjoyed this hostel very much. However when the hostel gets a little full they have extra appartments across the hall and down the street, and we were in one across the hall with two other groups, and we found it good. Nice beds (think sheets were too small, but whose complaining!) and a good bathroom. Boiler broke, bu was fixed propmtly. Free Goulash party and wine, served by a nice lady. Met lots of cool people and went out for the night. As with a few hostels, they dont check if loo paper runs out very often, so do ask if you need it! One of the better hostels i have stayed in.

This is one of those hostels that is impossible to review because, well its crap but it's such a great place.

Great location, good cheap wine on sale from reception, friendly staff (I got to paint an easter egg), good kitchen for socialising, good place to meet people.

On the negatives the bunks squeek and you feel the movement of the upper or lower person. The sheets are too small, the traffic noise is loud (not too bad at night), the noise from the kitchen is loud. I managed to sleep through a party and with the lights on though so can't complain too much. Only one male shower and tiolet. Two female showers (with gas hot water, sorry guys yours was always running out) and one female toilet. Oh and three flights of stairs. Make up your own mind.

Location is great. Place is not dirty at all but it gets noise that's for sure. After 11 the receptionist asked us to keep it low but it did not work so he joined us. We had a great time. The staff is exremely helpfull and know everything about the city. It is worth everything. I stayed in Budapest a few imes, so far Yellow Submarine is best hostel I have stayed in Hungary.

While the hostel was in a good location, that was all it had going for it. The hostel itself was revolting!!! It was dirty, the bathroom was far from adequate, the beds were ferral, the sheets didn't fit the bed & i'm sure there were things crawling in it...

For the price that you pay for it, it is seriously not worth it. I've been travelling for over 2 years now, and this is by far up there with the worst hostels of all time. You're better to spend your time and money elsewhere! Trust me, the internet site for this hostel is deceiving - don't be fooled.

Good luck looking for an alternative hostel.

This hostel is the worst I have ever stayed in, its dirty, noisy and very unfriendly.

The beds matresses are filthy and very uncomfortable and no doubt crawling with things!

The bathrooms were absolutely foul, they stank and probably had not been cleaned for an age. The showers were also freezing cold.

People here were weird and unfriendly and the owner very uncooperative.

Only stay here if you are really really really desperate!
