I stayed in this hostel for a week (June 12 - 19) in summer 2003. There are two new refurbished kitchens in it, one on each floor. The lower kitchen is the unofficial meeting room. There is always someone there to talk with. The rooms are clean and tidy, with a huge plant in one room. Important for me and some other guests was the high speed internet-connection that is available in the official meeting room downstairs. At the time I arrived in Grundarfjordur the hostel had opened just a few weeks ago, but it was already going well, with lots of bookings, and most people spent 2 nights or more. This immediate success was - at least in my opinion - thanks to Johanna & Johnny, the owners of the hostel. They are always busy with their guests, talking with them about their needs, organize people travelling on foot or by bus getting to other places in the surroundings. Most of all, they gave us a deep insight into the every day life of a typical Icelandic fishing village. They have a kind of enthusiasm for their hostel and their village that is easily skiping to their guests. So, I highly recommend this lovely hostel to all people travelling in this part of Iceland, not least because of its central location on the peninsula of Snaefellsnes.
