Stay if you need to be near airport otherwise opt for Reykjavik., August 21, 2008

Pros: Promptly answered emails; close to airport for late arrival
Cons: Location; not as clean as other hostels; advertised hot-tub did not work

The hostel is good if you arrive late and need to be near the airport. The location however is not convenient - it is more convenient and cheaper to stay in Reykjavik and catch the airport bus to the airport than stay at this hostel. There is only taxi transport from this hostel and no pickup service from airport although it is very close. There are some, but not a lot of, buses to Reykjavik.

The hostel felt like a place people had to stay because of the airport and thus lacked atmosphere. The Reykjavik Hostel in comparison felt like a place you would like to stay a few days and had great facilities and everything hostellers need.

The staff were varied - some helpful and friendly, some officious. Foreign rather than Icelandic staff were employed.

The cleaniness was ok but not nearly as good as most Icelandic hostels where I stayed. Superficially it looked ok but looking a bit closer, things were quite dirty, eg shower, bedsheet and fridge.

The hot-tub advertised with a picture on the website was not working when I stayed and I was there twice - almost two weeks apart at the height of tourist season and never saw anyone fixing it. Wonder if it ever works really.

Like many hostels in Iceland, the walls are thin and therefore it can be quite noisy.

Another time I would stay in Reykjavik instead. This area also has nothing to recommend a stay whereas most of Iceland is great.
