It has two really nice kitchens and the beds are confortable. It's a bit far from the centre but there's a swimming pool next door which is fantastic. The bus from the airport can drop you off there if you ask for it and they can also pick you up there to go to the blue lagoon, airport and several daytrips.I found it clean too. Icelandic hostel standards are always reliable as far as I could experience

Stayed in a 4 bed mixed dorm with ensuite in June 05.* 15 min bus ride out of town;* next to the thermal pools, largest in Iceland! (Just remember to shower BEFORE you get in the pool...long story* Nice social atmosphere. 3 kitchens, lots of places to sit or lounge around. * Staff friendly and helpful;* Rooms were clean, with heating; bathroom in dorm was spotless and roomy. The hot water in Reykjavik smells like sulphur because of their thermal heating which is interesting!* No lockers in rooms.Overall a good clean hostel with lots of great facilities. The distance from town is the only downside.

The hostel is rather good and _could_ have been a great as there are quite a lot of facilities and the common rooms and kitchen are nice and clean BUT the rooms are filthy and disgusting with tons of dust, crumbs, sand, mud, banana skin, etc. on the floors (for 3 days!) and the shower are even filthier. It looked like it hadn't been cleaned in ages!! Without any exageration, I can assure you that the only part of the shower that was not black was where the water could fall. It is a real waste of what could have been a great hostel.(This was in june 2004)

This hostel has an excellent pool right next to it. Iceland is very expensive and you are not going to find anything reasonably priced. The hostel is clean and the staff will help you with anything. I left my camera on the bus coming from the airport and the hostel staff tracked it down for me. FYI...do not miss the blue lagoon.

The Youth Hostel is by far the best and most cost effective in Iceland. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable and assist in everything you can possibly require (within reason). The atmosphere is one of humble friendliness and comfort. Its location is great for access to Reykjavik and surrounding interests which can fill a spare day between the bigger excursions with tour operators or your own adventures. Most tour operaters will pick you up from the Hostel's door.Compared to other accomadation in Reykjavik, this Hostel beats them hands down in terms of price, friendliness and quality. The place radiates a warmth not experienced by me in any hostel located so close to a major capital in any part of the world and is equal to most "homely" accomadation usually found in the more inaccessible parts of the world. I shall always consider the Hostel and its atmosphere to be a microcosm of the best of the people and country of Iceland.I do not offer many reviews (this is the first) in the "accomadation" area, however, I feel very strongly that this hostel is greater than the sum of its parts. For credibilty to a somewhat glowing report, I spent six months in Iceland in 02 /03 and circumnavigated the country a few times over...

The hostel is VERY clean, new and in a good area right next to the biggest outdoor swimming pool in Iceland, it takes about 2o min to walk to the center or you can take a bus it stops across the strees from the hostel, the airport bus also stops right by the front door, The hostel has a car/bicycle rental andthere is a beautiful park, botanical garden, and animal park right by the hostel.
