Ok place to stay in but would not recommend it., August 23, 2007

Pros: En-suite, comfortable bed

Stayed in what looks like newly renovated rooms.

En-suite which was nice and modern but with no ventilation - nothing dried in there and everything stayed damp including the toiletpaper!

Comfortable bed.

Kitchen campstyle but no character and ok facilities.

Found pub to be expensive for a very average meal and very small and dated.

Only stay there if you have to!

First off, if you have a few travelmates with you, book the cabin. It gives you privacy and is a way to spoil yourself and still pay hostel prices. We only stayed two nights but wished that we could of stayed more. The Doyles could not have been nicer or more accommodating. After a day of hiking and driving the ring (of Beara) enjoy a pint with locals and other hostelers at their pub at the end of the road.

This Hostel, dramatically situated at the foot of Hungry Hill, the largest peak in the Beara Peninsula, is among the premiere hostels in Ireland. Clean, friendly, warm, spacious, and fully loaded with kitchen and bathroom facilities, Hungry Hill has everything a hosteller could ever dream of, right in the centre of the most dramatic, secluded landscape in the country. Owners Patrick and Eileen Doyle were gracious and hospitable, provided great advice and were able to outfit me in with every possible piece of equipment needed for a fulfilling outdoor experience in the Beara. If you are looking for a little piece of out-of-the-way Irish heaven, make your way from Cork City to the Hungry Hill Hostel. I absolutely loved it!
