The ruddest woman informed me when i arrived at 8pm that she had given the room I had booked over a month ago, away. She said the policy was that the guests had to arrive before 7pm a policy she never informed me about in my two phone calls to her, the first to book the room, the second to confirm. I had given her my mobile number in case of any problems, so a call would have cleared up any confusion she had about our arrival. We were thrown into a dormitory and offered no alternative. The hostel was clean and comfortable, the owners rude and inconsiderate...use the hostel as a last resort.

Traveling from Cork via kinsale by bike. Pre-booked to ensure a bed.Arrived that evening 10ish. Told 'no bed'.

Asked about boooking. Told 'not booked'. Asked if they have a booking/reservation book. Met with stares of ignorant anger. The guy is just rude and dumb. Avoid.

P.s. It seems this hostel is used by East Europeans working in the town.

A souless hostel with a rude owner who was thoroughly unhelpful about the bed bugs I suffered from the two nights I stayed there last September; he almost seemed to imply it was my fault. I thoroughly sprayed everything with fly killer before cycling away - my luggage, my shoes, etc. The nearby hostal,

Maria's Schoolhouse, at Union Hall cannnot be recommend enough.

Nicely painted and decorated exterior with a functional and clean interior. The showers kept soaking the floors of the whole w/c, but they were hot and the pressure was good. You just had to wade through a river to get out of there. Kitchen was well stocked and very clean, and the owner was very friendly when we arrived, though I had trouble understanding him.
