The worst Hostel ever., January 22, 2007

In fact the hostel name is libellous: it's a dump disguised with an hostel panel. Judge by yourself:

1/ the guys there don't know anything about hospitality: they are ruthless, bad mannered, noisy, not polite and not at all of good service.

2/ they have broken my presents for chrismas which were deposited in a so called "safe"...

3/ food has been stolen / eaten by other tenants, and some brand new has been dumped by the girls working there.

4/ toilets smells like if they weren't washed ever, actually they are washed with hot water once or two a week, understand then why you get sick often there.

5/ lights in upper toilets are broken since one month and still no repair!

6/ water flowing out of taps like a car wash high pressure system; hot water is too hot, and it's not sure you'll get hot water or any water at all: during november they get a water outage for... 3 days !!!

7/ 2 ovens, 2 hot plates, 1 kitchen sink BUT BUT 150 people living there (10 rooms with in between 14 to 22 people each): it's the war to get access to everything.

8/ Don't expect to read or study there: no light in rooms, thundering noise bordering the kitchen area.

9/ Don't expect to talk English with the staff: they don't and their accent is totally crap.

10/ showers are flooded and never washed: if you love washing yourself surrounded by old chewing gums, coton buds, and dirty water this "paradise" is for you!

11/ photos on their advertisement is deceiting: they are from 5 years ago, since everything has changed like the carpet's soiled, the stairs hastly painted to hide the misery, the room dirty and the lights broken.

12/ don't expect to get a clean plate at 6 am nor get a trash empty: everything will be dirty and in pile.

For a small amount added to this price you can get a far better hostel where you'll not turn sick hence saving you the money to get healed and saving your life. Avoid to be stolen: this hostel is a rip off.

Highly adviced against but to masochists. You've been warned, "enjoy your stay" and bring us some photos.

Well, I thought it was only bad luck for me... As I read the previous reviews, I can now say it so people won't go there! I made reservations too. They were lost too. But it was only for one night at 15. They didn't give me my money back... of course they charged me twice like you... I must say the same about staff and place. The staff is rude because they almost don't speak english... I think they are students freshly arrived there to learn it.

There is something more I have to say about this place (just can't even name it a 'hostel'). The rooms open with a card they hire you. Mine first didn't work at all. So I must walk all along the 2 levels trough very long halls to reach the reception... (may be great if you want to train for marathon or somethin'). In the morning, I woke up to take a shower (at the 1st floor... so walk my friend). Then, impossible to reach my room again because my stupid card wouldn't work anymore! Let's go once again at the reception dressed with my only little towel... They fixed it. I had a little discussion about that with other girls... They had the same problems almost all days they were here. What a shame! The newest hostel in Dublin, I thought it was great!

I was about to forget THE thing! The hire of the card is 1. If you give it back, they are sensed to give you back ur 1... only if they registered it on their #{[@#{^[ computer. So... forget ur 1...

My reservation is lost and I can not be refund! No computer file, no refund! Go there if you want to waste your money with non english speaker staff.

The Worst Hostel in all the world! First, when we arrived 2 days before we got reservations (yes we slept at my friend's home), we go at browns hostel to make sure the reservations are ok... well... they were not! The reservations have been lost. At this point, we made another reservation for 2 nights, so they took my credit card just for reference and nothing will be charged on it. Well... The night for wich we had reservation: we arrived soon in the evening... the reservations were lost again... GRRRR! Hopefully there was 2 beds left! This time they take again my credit card and the 2 nights will be charged. Ok that's fine... The place is really awfull, it's not clean and toilets have no paper... Showers are really dirty! The breakfast is very light and not very good.

When we came back home in france, we have seen that the first time we made reservations, the nights were charged on my credit card! And 2 more nights were charged 2 days after our departure! The staff are dumb asses and they are so rude that you can't even ask for anything while in there... They SUCK ! We are looking for what we can do to have our money back, but we need help because we don't either know what to do!

i stayed here for 4 nights out of necessity and ended up with so many bed bug bites that i lost count. the sheets were disgusting and they never vacuumed or took out the trash the entire time i was there. although there are plenty of showers it takes forever to get to them as they are on the first floor. enjoy your itchiness!

This unwitting Canadian arrived in Dublin on a Saturday night in March, the night of the big England v. Ireland rugby match and had no idea getting a bed of any sort would be so arduous. After much dogged work from the folks at the T.I., a bed was finally procured by the redoubtable Paddy, and he pointed me in the direction of Brown's. I wasn't expecting much, but was happy to have found a bed, even if it was a bed in a 20-bed dorm. I was pleasantly surprised by the spotlessness of the place. The room (called Barrow) was light and airy, the sheets of a strong and comfortable variety, the 2-euro blanket clean and cozy and the demeanour of the other 19 people in the room decidedly civil. The shower area is commodious, as is the common room. On my third and fourth nights the rate dropped from 20 to 9.99, so even if I'd had complaints, it would've been mingey to carp at that price.

I would solidly recommend Brown's Hostel.

i stayed in this hostel for 2 nights. overall i enjoyed my stay, apart from the rude, bored american/canadian female receptionist. she was most unhelpful and frowned every time we asked a question. otherwise, this hostel is very well maintained and is warm. there are plenty of showers - i had an ensuite but chose to use one of the 'public' showers because the pressure was slightly better. however the showers have no room for drying and drainage isn't the best, so make sure you put your clothes in a plastic bag, against the wall!

breakfast is provided and is very good. linen is free but if you don't have a sleeping bag, you have to hire a blanket for 2 euros (the blankets are quite warm). our room was a little cramped but had a tv and wardrobe.

this hostel is only a short walk to the city centre. so ignoring the receptionist, i enjoyed my time here.

As nice as this place looks when you walk in, we did NOT enjoy our stay. We stayed in a room in the basement and it was cold and damp. When we were moved to one of the upstairs rooms, it was much better, but had over twenty beds in the room... not exactly relaxing. The staff were incredibly rude the entire time. There was no kitchen, and they didn't like it when you used the few dishes that were sitting out... apparently they were for staff only?? The place might be ok for a night or two, but if you are planning to stay longer (we stayed six nights, as we were looking for an apartment in Dublin), try Globetrotters down the road, or Barnacles in Temple Bar. Globetrotters has a delicious, huge breakfast and the rooms are much nicer... our friends stayed there... we visited them and were extremely impressed. They loved it. Don't bother with Browns.

After a hard day of sight-seeing, meeting people, eating too little, and drinking too much, it's nice to go home to a hostel like Browns. It's central, it's comfortable, it's affordable, and it's unforgettable - for all the right reasons!

Not only are the dorms clean and the showers hot, but the staff are fantastic! They're good for a laugh, full of essential pub information AND they're available 24hrs if you have any problems.

The rooms are spacious and cosy, with allocated bedding and good security. The common room is big and bland - it needs some pictures on the walls - but it's a good place to hang out with fellow backpackers, and IT'S GOT BEAN BAGS! What more could you want?! The toilets are clean and there are plenty of showers which are all nice and hot - there's no queueing in this hostel!

Dublin's busiest time of year - St Patrick's weekend - would be enough to show any hostel's true colours. Brown's romped it in with great staff and faultless organisation. Stay there once, and you'll want to go back!

The first impressions I had when I walked in the door was wow! This was unlike any other hostels I have ever seen. The reception area seems more like a hotel reception than a hostel. It is so warm and welcomming with carpets, plants and very nice artwork on the walls. The staff couldnt have been more friendly and helpful and they know all the best bars and restaurants so ask them! The showers are warm and powerful but you have to keep pressing the button. What struck me most though was how clean the place is. The rooms, common area, breakfast area are all immaculate. I will definately be back!
