I stayed for 3 nights and met the greatest people. Female only rooms, hot showers, free breakfast, very helpful staff, weekly rate on offer, free night club passes and money off drink vouchers. All in all the best hostel in Ireland.

I stayed in Barnacles Dublin when I arrived in Ireland, and then stayed at the Barnacles Galway for a few days after that. The hostel in Galway was my favourite, its an old quaint building with lots of modern facilities, even has internet in the Tv room. Staff are lovily, some of them are backpackers too who are working in Galway for a while. Galway is definately worth a visit

Stayed here in August. Everything was just fab. In the middle of everything, anything you need is available, hairdryer, iron, internet. Powerful hot showers, apologies to everyone I was sharing with, I just couldn't resist it. I will be back!

Well, i couldn't find any bugs or pubic hair in my bed and the showers seem to be clean. I had a room in the backside of the building so it was quiet.Maybe i was just lucky. The staff was very friendly and helpful. but i admitt that the breakfast could do a lot better.I always missed out the fruit juice and when groups are staying, there is no chance to get a seat or near the toaster at all.But that can happen everywhere with groups staying. If you don't sleep in the noisy front rooms, its ok to stay at Barnacles. They could do with new matresses though.

This hostel had potential, but didnt live up to it. The halls and lobby were clean, but the room could definately be nicer. In the 4 person room, the bunks were no more than a few inches apart. The "shower" is a joke as it was no more than a hole in the wall that the COLD water dribbled out of. I had never been so cold before in my life. Then to try to warm up, I turned on the heater, but it never actually came on. When I looked at my bed, I saw a plethora of pubic hair and upon further inspection saw a bug roaming through it. I brushed it aside and went to bed. The most unsettling thing was the random stranger in my bed the next night who I wouldnt be surprised was a transient. I think this place might be better kept up during the summer, but if you're going in the off season, you're better off walking down the street and getting a hotel. The staff didnt seem to be very trusting either when I told them of the problems. They felt there was no way these things could actually happen and that I dreamed them up. Just be on the lookout, it is NOT a YOUTH HOSTEL, any random person could stay there, including the smelly stranger in my bed.

Do not stay here!, March 20, 2004

The sheets were dirty with hair and bugs. I asked for them to be changed and it seems as all the receptionist did was move my things around to make it look like she put new sheets on. There were still hairs and bugs in the bed. I still stayed the night because it was about 11 pm by then. The second night I bought disinfectant spray and sprayed down the room. When I got back to my room later that night there was a homeless man in the room. This is not a YOUTH hostel. It is for all ages. Bathrooms smell like mold and there are push button showers which are very cold. Do not stay here. I ended up going to a hotel the second night and they would not give me a refund for the night I did not stay. However, the staff were very friendly. I will give them that. It doesn't make up for the pure and utter filth that I had to deal with.

Very close to everything & in a pedestrian area which was nice. After taking about 30mins to check in, I was sent to my room but had no bed. I returned to reception & they assured me there was an empty bed in the room, but I couldn't find it. The bed I claimed wasn't vacant & when I got out of the shower a bigger dude politely told me to get, but after a bit of fukkin about I eventually got a bed but by this stage the pubs were about to close!

In the morning, u'd better be quick as the free food disappears quick! I was down 15mins after kitchen opened and all juice was gone, all milk was gone, i got the heel of a loaf for me toast & black coffee. Better than nowt I guess, but not enough to gear me up for me travels!

Showers were good & staff were friendly and very helpful - they even posted home an item I'd accidentally left behind - fair play te ye girls!

My experience wasn't as good as others. Plus, no lockers.
