I stayed here for 4 nights and the staff are super friendly which is great in such a big place - they'll give you advice on pretty much anything you need to know ! I met some cool people in the common area who stay there for a weekly rate. Beds are comfy and clean and there's super fast internet ! I'll definitely go back there on my next trip to Ireland !

I liked this place, no complaints or anything.

But a few things that really bothered me was this concept of the keys. They don't just give you electronic card keys like in other hostels, but they have some funny policy of giving you a paper card with your room number written on it during checkin, and everytime you enter the hostel, you're s'posed to ask the receptionist who'll give you some sort of plastic key with punchholes and stuff.

The rooms were so-so. Comfy beds but seemed very crammed.

My biggest complaint were the bathrooms. The locks weren't working, which means that from outside, each toilet looks like it was occupied while all along, it was vacant! 2ndly, the showers were weird - some of them had hot water and some of them cool.

What I liked most was the location of the hostel. Friendly receptionists, and excellent FAST Internet access. Very impressive.

I'd really recommend this hostel to anyone. It's safe and quiet despite being in the city centre. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 is cos I've stayed in better like Barnacles, Dublin. But it really ain't that bad!

I really enjoyed this hostel. It had a decent breakfast, amazing location, and friendly people stayed here. The bathrooms were good, and the rooms were pretty much standard - nothing spectacular, but certainly nothing to complain about!

....but if you need quiet nights, this is not the place to be.

Paperthin walls, noisy partycrowd and cold showers(well you will have to press the pushbutton about a hundred times to get any close to warm water). The kitchen is too small for such a big hostel. The breakfast was ok.The place has a bit of an institutional atmosphere with all that tourgroups staying (ie. Paddywagon) The beds are ok, sheets get changed every day and so far its a clean place, but if you need a good night sleep, go somewhere else.Specially if you prefer to have a hot shower...The staff is not always that friendly as i heard from other travellers...and food got taken quite frequently as well.

The Kinley house is a really big hostel which is the only "negative" thing I can say about it. The 8-bed-dorm might be the best dorm I've ever stayed in, very comfortable! Showers and breakfast were also good plus the hostel is very central. If you're looking for a good hostel in Galway, Kinley's might not be the worst decision:)

Ok Hostel, but a few things suck. Lock the doors at 11pm, you have to be buzzed in. Showers are the worst!!! Push button! Hot water took forever! Bedrooms are ok.Good location

They have one large Kitchen an one smaller kitchen which is handy. All the bus tours leave from outside the front so it is handy because you dont get wet ( in the winter). I stayed here in October 2003 for 5 days for only 50 euros. Breakfast was small bu free

I booked for 3 nights and stayed just for 1. Not a pleasant experience. Room was cramped, smelly and the staff could not have been more unhelpful even if they tried. I moved to another hostel the next day and it was great! Dont settle for second best, shop around!

Typical large hostel, well-run, but crowded, August 12, 2003

I was surprised at the size of this place. Loads of people and groups stay here, so it can get very crowded and noisy, but that's to be expected from a hostel this size and it runs pretty smoothly considering. The showers/toilets were reasonably clean and worked well. The main kitchen downstairs was unmangeable at dinner time, but there is a smaller but less crowded kitchen upstairs in the tv room. The staff were neither rude nor friendly. They were more like the generic travel posters hung on the walls. They served their purpose.

I stayed at Kinlay House in Galway for several nights in March. It can be overwhelmingly loud when there are big tour groups and students on holiday, and unfortunately the staff can't do much about it. But the kitchen is big and clean, the rooms are fairly comfortable, although I suspect they don't often wash the comforters. Kinlay House is in a good location, right on Eyre Square, but it is a little overpriced and not a place for long-termers in the high season. For more than a few nights I'd look elsewhere.
