The hostel is nice, clean, and not expensive at all. The surroundings are beautiful (only 10 miles from the lovely Waterville and Portmagee, the Skellig Islands). But the most important thing is Mary, the woman who runs the hostel: funny, outgoing, always ready to help people, the nicest person I've ever met. Another important thing is the East End Bar, the pub in front of the hostel, is nice place, and you can have the best Irish coffee of all Ireland. Lovely place with lovely people, please trust me.

The owner was fantastic. I was only in the door 10 seconds, and she was pouring me a cup of tea, and starting a peat fire to warm me up. Gave me literature for the local architecture, and planned the trip to Skellig. She even argued (and won) with the Captain when he wanted £30 instead of £20, and moved the departure from Cahersiveen to Portmagee. The hostel was a bit sparse, though the kitchen, bathrooms were more then adequate, and the location was wonderfull for exploring the town and surrounding hillside.

The woman who ran the place was quite friendly and was able to organise boat trips to the Skellig Rock. The kitchen is well supplied and there are no problems cooking for yourself. The hostel was fairly non-descript, there has been no great effort made to decorate it. Also it seemed expensive for what it was at 14 euros per night.
