i had a really nice time in tralee. the hostel itself is lovely. it's definetly the nicest hostel i stayed in. the kitchen, laundry and lounge facilities are great. all the staff was very nice. after reading the other reviews i have to put in a word for fergus. he's really concerned about his guests and tries to be helpful. and except for that a nice, really irish and fucking goodlooking bloke. ;-) the only disadvantge is that there is no downstairs toilet in the hostel. (never mind)

Oh my god!What are they thinkin of??apparently this place is owned by a rather nice lady called eileen but as she was no where to be found all we had was the so called manager fergus.i use his name as you must know who to avoid!strewth man this guy is seriously detatched from all sense or reality.he employs good lookin girls to be his staff and so he can try it on so i was told!is in a permadrunk state,and,as he is neither a traveller or a backpacker(hes a local)he is on a very different wavelength.why was he employed?the one star i gave is for the weather as it was nice for a day or two!if you must visit tralee(not much here folks!)give it a miss and either spend the extra on a b+b or look elsewhere.the hostel would have beeen great except for this evil sneaky dude.

I CAME TO TRALEE AND AGAINST THE ADVICE BY OUR FREINDLY US/IRISHMAN I ATTEMPTED TO BOOK INTO THE HOSTEL FOR THE SEASON AS I WAS TO BE WORKING IN THE AREA..I WAS TOLD THAT THE HOSTEL OPPORATES A 4 NITE MAX STAY WHICH IS ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS!WHERE DO THE SEASONAL WORKERS STAY?IT WAS ALSO LIES AS I KNOW OTHERS WHO HAVE STAYED THERE LONGER...MAYBE MY FACE DIDNT FIT BUT I DO URGE YOU BACKPACKERS TO STAY AWAY FROM THE PLACE AND WHEN THEY HAVE NO CUSTOM MAYBE THINGS THERE WILL CHANGE!UNTILL THEN MY FRIENDS I SUGGEST THE OTHERE 2 PLACES IN TOWN!

Much and all as I hate to be the one to burst a bubble it's only right that those out there travelling around and using this site to help locate GOOD accomodation hear this disappointing tale of woe. All I can think of is that the management has changed since the other reviewers wrote their posts. I went home - to Kerry - to get married on this past May Bank holiday weekend; the first weekend in May. I currently live in the U.S. and the dollar/euro exchange is so bad that I wanted to give our guests a shot at cheaper accomodation than hotel accomodation and Finnegans was one place we put on our list. I AM SO SORRY I SUGGESTED ITSeven people, four from one family, then two and then one, none of whom knew one another previously and who were from Massachusetts, Florida and Galway respectively, stayed here. ALL had a dreadful time and it would appear that the cause of the majority of the upset was the manager, a man named Fergus.He was DRUNK and banging on doors and yelling and cursing till the wee hours. The next day when my friends asked for a refund he told them he was hungover and "couldn't be bothered with them". There were no lights in the stairwell and the friend who had the room at the top of the building had to climb the last two flights in total darkness. The sheets were unclean and he refused to have them changed. Also the noise from the street was incessant ALL night, throughout the night, as the doors are on heavy springs and close with a thunderous bang - and there is no curfew so people come and go at all hours. Still, the biggest cause of upset was the manager. He was obnoxious and downright horrible and I was (and am) SO upset and embarassed and am really, really mad and intend to get the word out. I think this hostel, in itself, is a lovely building, centrally located etc.etc. but HOW my friends were treated is totally unacceptable and in my opinion this man should not be in the position he is in.Please be aware of this as you plan your holiday. Two doors down is the Ashe Townhouse and another friend stayed here and had a lovely stay so you might want to look at there instead.If anyone finds Finnegans GOOD after this May - I'd like to hear about it, but for us, the whole experience was just terrible and I felt so badly that people travelled so far to be at our wedding and their first encounter with 'real Ireland' was this ***hole. Thanks for listening and BE WARNED !!!

I was very impressed with this hostel. The building itself doesn't give it away but when you walk inside, you feel like in a palace! The common room is beautiful, the rooms are amazing! The kitchen is good, the staff are friendly, the price is fair - totally recommended.

Finnegans is a gorgeous hostel, and you won't believe the value for the price. 16 Euros per night for the dorm beds is a stunning value compared to other B&B/hostels! The place is clean, bright, and lovely. The staff are charming and friendly, and the other travellers there are generally great fun. This place is a must-visit for anyone in Tralee.

Nice, clean, friendly staff, large full equipped kitchen, georgous common tv room with fire in chimney, recommended!!!
