I first heard of the island of Ischia while staying in Naples. Someone told me to go there and stay at the hostel. Wow, staying there made my trip in Ischia. It's a big HI hostel with a family staff, clean, balcony from every room with a view of the Mediterranean, and pool. More like a hotel. It just seemed like one of those places out of the beaten path.

Up the street, there are a few restaurants, shops. I ate at this one rest. all the time. This one rest. in particular that I ate at all the time was runned by a local Italian family. I remembered eating there one night when I had just checked into the hostel, and didn't have any money to pay for the food (banks were closed, and the rest. didn't accept Credit Cards). So the nice Italian owner told me and my friend that we can pay the day after or the next day. We finally did have enough to pay, but his honesty motivated us to eat most all our meals there.

Another fond memory of the place / time there, was about 10 of us from the hostel bought a couple bottles of wine and took a bus to an area where they have hot springs. This place (ask the owners when you get there), was just so peaceful. New found friends, couple bottles of wine, relaxing by the water and in the hot springs.

If you have the opportunity, definate go to this place.

Clean rooms with a great view with a wonderful balcony.

Warning! Do not leave the doors open at night (not even a crack). We were overrun with mosquitos and I alone had 48 bites on one arm!!

The common areas were OK.

stayed here for a few nights with boyfriend in sept and was the most beautiful hostel at excellent price. 13.50 each a night for a private room that actually fitted 4, so clean, en-suite bathroom, balcony, pool and 2 minute walk from an excellent free sandy wavy beach. ischia doesn't have a great night life so the curfew of 2am wasn't a problem if you just want a relaxing few days at the beach swimming and sunbathing. would highly recommend it.

Nice Hostel, Not-So-Nice Front Desk Help, September 13, 2003

We just spent two nights at HI-Ischia. The hostel itself is beautiful. Each room has a great view of the ocean and the balconies are perfect for hanging wet clothes to dry. It's a 35 minute bus ride from Ischia Porto and all you have to do is ask the bus driver to stop there or you can take a micro-taxi.

Now the not-so-happy part. I have stayed in many hostels and was quite surprised by the lack of enthusiasm from the front desk staff. They seemed very disinterested in their work and when asked questions about the area, did not seem to know even basic things like where a laundromat or internet cafe was. The one and only internet terminal was down all three days/two nights we were there. There was no breakfast the first morning, and the second morning when we were checking out there was breakfast. There was reading material in German and Italian and very little information about what to do on the island. I was hoping to take in a spa treatment, but was afraid to ask for fear of no answer. I was really disappointed and will probably stay in a hotel the next time I come to Ischia, an otherwise beautiful vacation spot.

This hostel was very nice. Even though I only spent a day there, I could tell the (co?)owner was very nice. Location seemed decent and it was right near the water. All the rooms have balconys with beautiful views of the ocean and sunsets etc. I went in early April so the pool wasn't filled but I bet its nice when its used. Unfortunately, some annoying rules: no guys in girls rooms after a certain time, relatively early curfew, no alcohol. If you are going with a girl it may be useful to tell her you are couple. I didn't do that though, b/c I didn't know about the rules. I deducted one star for that. Otherwise, the place was like a clean friendly 2 star hotel where you share the room with a few other people.

WOW!! This is the best place ever...rooms are super clean (with in-room bathrooms!!) and each room has a balcony with a view of the ocean and mountains...che bella. Did I mention the pool??? But that's not even the best part, the greatest assest to this place is the staff. They're a family and they treat you like family. I will never forget the great times!!!

This was the only H.I. hostel we stayed in Italy and it was great. The only let down was the actual place...Ischia. If checking out German O.A.P.s on the beach is your scene then this is the place for you!! The hostel made up for it, but we could only handle 2 nights on this desolate island. It has a swimming pool outside which is great (we went in september and it was baking). The rooms are all well-maintained and every room has a balcony which have some great views.
