Stayed here May 05 - was advised to stay at Asterix 2 by an american couple we met in Barcelona - so I booked it. After walking to Asterix 2 (which looked kinda cool) we were told we were in Asterix 1 - so after another walk we arrived. The staff (Travis) at the time were friendly and welcoming and answered any questions we had A really good resource. The place was tiny, cramped and needed renovation big time. It wasn't so much dirty but not maintained. On our second day the owner came in and started shouting at the staff and sacked them on the spot for being "lazy" in front of all the guests - far from the truth but made the whole place and atmosphere uncomfortable. It is close to Termini so if you need a place to be to catch an early train is the only reason I would stay here - or if there was nothing else. Biggest complaint is the lack of maintenance and lack of common area to meet others.

Stayed in Asterix One. I found the bathrooms filthy, the staff were rude, the security was really terrible and i had to share a key to the front door with a couple of other backpackers which made things difficult. Only good thing was the free internet access. Definately dont stay here.

The worst place I've ever seen. The staff was drunk, everything was dirty, you can't use the kitchen or take breakfast before 8:30 am and there was just 1 bathroom for the hostel, inside the room... I'll neve go back there!

I really enjoyed my stay with asterix. The staff was very friendly and always available to answer questions. The beds were comfortable and the showers were clean, often the toilets were cleaned more then once a day, which is rare these days! Currently they are in a trasition phase so things were a bit chaotic while I was here, but the new place is nice and once everything is moved and things settle down this hostel will be back to rocking and rolling in just the way it should be. I would definately recommend this place to all the down to earth people I know. I loved it and all the food!

I stayed at this place in the beginning of October. It's a 3-room, 6-8 bed hostel with 2 bathrooms for guys and girls. Both were quite clean. The price of 17Eur/night (one of the cheapest in the train station area) included an italian style breakfast (rather small for my habits) but the kitchen is well equiped - stove, fridge, cupboards and dishes free for use. They also have free Internet, cable TV and stereo :-) The interier of the hostel is painted in graffiti style - compliments to the authors!!! I don't know how the place looks like during summer but in October there were only 7-8 of us there (all girls except for my friend) so it was quiet and clean. The girls I met there were very nice and friendly - it was one of my first backpacking experiences and I'm sure now I want to repeat it again :-)

Asterix is a good hostel. After staying a horrible night at the Roma Inn, i arrived at Asterix to find that it was the same price as that shithole (18euro) but included breakfast and free internet. Also, free pasta with a 5euro drink purchase at the Old Bell Pub, which was allright. It was pretty empty when i got there, its a small place so dont go there expecting to party alot, go out for that. theres not really a common room, but cable TV in the kitchen. Good kitchen with lots of utensils, pots pans, communal oil. Staff was AWESOME (ok are you happy R?) they made me tea for my death cough and got some great donuts for breakfast mmm... real coffee also. Showers, clean and hot. No curfew, 11 to 3pm lockout. Good location, 5 mins from train station, and theres a good supermarket around the corner. Thats about it, id stay here again, its small but good, and cheaper than anywhere else in rome. A good place to go if you just wanna chill and do Jack.

I stayed here last spring. Hated it. I slept in a dorm with a rude, smelly Italian guy who made my life (and the rest of the people in the dorm) misearable. There are two showers, quite unconfortable. Kitchen was always dirty, the staff, well, average. In my vast back-packing experience, this one stands out as one of the worse.

I visited this hostel for a few days in March. Its atmosphere is suited to the open minded younger crowd. Being a small place it can get a bit crowded with a couch and tv in the kitchen, but its just what is needed in the morning to relax having breakfast listening to the news. The staff where excellent very chilled out and helpful with whatever i needed. The place was kept clean, and I was greated ever night with candles and incense burning, it made it so cool to just put your feet up and chill, on the free internet there or watch a movie on the cable tv they had. And i found it really great when i wanted to go out as the staff came along to party as well and made sure we got back safely which is a bonus. The only thing that sucked was how crowded it got in the mornings when you wanted a shower and also at night when the kitchen is full and you cant sit down anywhere. But other than that its cool.
