My wife & I have travelled extensively and stayed at 5 star resorts and hostels. With accommodation expensive in Rome for Aussies', price was important. For the price, equivalent to hostels around the train terminus, I was a little worried what I was going to find. What an absolute relief to have landed a very clean and well positioned hostel. Not a real party hostel so ideal for budget couple. Rooms had views and great commual dining area with a balcony. Marble floors awesome. We weren't too popular by arriving late due our delayed flight. We had to wake Hannah to let us in.

I stayed for a week in December over new years eve.

Luckily i had a friend living in Rome to hang out with otherwise i would have been on my own - it is a hostel but not in the sense you can meet lots of out going people and the staff certainly dont make it social - the kitchen is the only comunal area and that closes really early so no midnight feasts after a hard nite out! It is clean and safe though so if u are on your own you would be fine but better if you have someone to hang out with. It is in a good area - lots to do, Vatican quite close and can walk pretty much everywhere. Up lots of steps though.

First of all, I made my reservation with colors.. and then they sent me to a different hotel, Hotel Benjamin, which was fortunately in the same building. But, it was brand new.. so new that the kitchen wasn't finished.. showers weren't finished, etc. which was an inconvenience. The price was ok, 20 euros per night.. and the location was good.. just blocks from St. Peters and Vatican City. Just make sure that you actually get to stay at the place you reserved.. and that all of the facilities are available.. has a lot of potential.

I've done a lot of hostelling, and love the area of Prato in Rome where Colors is located - it has a great feel and so much good food nearby. The spotless kitchen, nearby market and terrace with herbs growing made Colors a haven at the end of the day - as did its peacefulness and small number of guests...Hannah is very friendly and you get your own key. I was so disappointed when i came back to rome and there was no room at Colors!

Note that the hostel is up about 6 flights of stairs, so only for the fairly fit. Well priced, with best gelati in Rome just down the road in Piazza Risorgimento.

I went to Rome in summer 2000. Because I had no reservations I walked a lot around Rome before I found this hostel. It is rather small which gives it a more familiar and friendly feeling. The beds are comfortable and very clean. The kitchen service is great and if you're a backpacker who likes to buy off the street and cook (rather than eat at restaurants), this would be very helpful. It also has a terrace with a view of the city that's to die for. I have traveled all around the world, from the fantastic Great Wall of China to the breathtaking ruins of Machu-Picchu, and I can say without doubt that this place is a backpackers dream.
