Papa Germano is a nice hostel, in a good location near to the main railway station. The street it's on isn't the best but it's really convenient for travel. The staff are nice, and always happy to help. The room was clean and the maid comes in to make the beds every day. The bathroom was well-equipped (hot shower) and cleaned every day but the floor often got muddy from people walking in with shoes, and there was sometimes a queue. The kitchen was basic but there was a fridge. Overall I enjoyed staying there, I was impressed with how nice the rooms were.

From the moment we walked in the door, we have felt welcome by the staff. When we came to our room, it was clean, nice and comfortable. The bathrooms down the hall are clean and look new. The water is hot and the water pressure is good. Close to Termini, which is nice after a day of travel. I love this place! I like hostels, but paying a little bit extra for the hotel-feel is worth it. I would definitely stay here again.

After finding my fav hostel (the Beehive) was booked out, and wanting to be close to Termini for an early train, I found Hotel Papa Germano. It is a hotel but offers dormitory beds for 22 euros.

After an extremely painless and friendly check in I was given my keys (one for the front door so you can come in at any time, and one for the room), I was shown to the room which was on the first floor. The dorm room I was in had only 4 beds in it (proper ones, not bunks), plus cable TV, reading lights, a sink, wardrobe and a telephone! There were 2 large bathrooms which were two steps down the hall.

Unfortunately, because it was hot we had to have the window open and I was kept awake for hours by the amazing amount of noise outside. I'm usually quite a heavy sleeper but from about 3am onwards I barely got 10 mins sleep. Rubbish being collected, lots of banging and shouting, you name it. I don't know if it was just my rotten luck or if all rooms have this problem.

Other than that (which is why I deducted one star), everything else was great. I was offered a map of the city when I checked in, and I believe they had internet access too. No breakfast, but not a major problem. Hotel is only 5 mins from Termini. Slightly more expensive but lovely to stay in a hotel atmosphere after many hostels. I'd stay here again.

Okay for a single not for a twin!, September 5, 2003

I found Papa Germano´s to be a pretty decent hostel in a good area close to the central Termini train station. I had originally intended to stay in a single room but ended up meeting someone and sharing a twin room. I think this place is great if you have a dorm bed or a double or triple room but it was bad for a twin! I think the room must have been the same size as a single, but with two beds. For 5 euros more my friend and I stayed in a nearby hotel and had private facilities, breakfast and a huge room that had just been renovated. I think Papa´s is a good place if you´re travelling alone though. The bathrooms were really clean - bring your own towel though!!

Yes, it's still a hostel, but if you're not turned off by old wallpaper, this place is a find and a half. I don't know what the dorm beds were like, but we had a four person room without a bathroom, for 22 each person each night. The room was spacious and very clean. The bathroom was three steps down the hallway and better than the two hotels I stayed in while in Rome- new facilities, spacious, extremely nice. Staff is also helpful. And a five minute walk from the train station! After Gothic Point in Barcelona, this was like the Ritz-Carlton. DEFINITELY stay here if you can afford the 22 a night.(and that's easter week)

This hostel was one of the best bargains I have ever found. Clean and cozy, a place you can come back to and relax, with the price of a hostel and an atmosphere of a decent hotel. Even the dorm rooms have up to only 4beds each, so it is not as hectic as normal hostel rooms, also there are free internet access in the lobby. The concierge Gino and his staff were exceedingly friendly and helpful(and multi lingual!!), made you feel very welcomed. Location couldn't be beat, a few minutes of walk from the termini station, and around the immediate vicinity pubs, cafes, snack bars and clubs are abound. Perhaps partly because I was there during the off-season, but the place was meticulously run, I felt I got the best possible value for what I shelled out, mere 18euros a night. If you can afford a tad more, there are lovely private rooms still at excellent prices also, I would recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a best deal in this not-so-cheap eternal city!!
