We arrived in Rome in September 2002 by train not having booked an accomodation. We intended to go to another hostel (for 20 a night per person), when a guy at the Termini station gave us a card from Michelangelo Palace telling us, we would pay only 18 per person per night there. We arrived at Michelangelo (no signs of the Hostel outside) and realized it was an old city appartment in a historical building. The location is great, you just walk down the street and you're in Piazza Venezia, so no need for metro at all. Then the owner (?), when cheking in said, that no, the price was 20 , but we said that this guy told us 18, then he said that he didn't know the guy or that he was mad or somehting. The tragic part was that me and my boyfriend were separated in different rooms. Ok. Mine was a large one and there were 7 beds. He was in a tiny one one with 6 beds. There were 3 bathrooms. One was always very dirty, the other two were ok, but just one really worked properly. They were just cleaned once a day in the morning. The staff was quite ok, but you could see different people during the day (more than 3). The kitchen is not even a kithen. It only got a tea maker and a microvave, so you couldn't possibly cook there. There was as well a computer connected to Internet, which was free, so ques in the evening were common. The breakfast was ok. For us, who are used to Italian food, coffee and a brioche was ok, but for other could be a problem as there was anything else (the breakfast was served in a nearby bar). As other reviewer said there was no common place to hang out withing the appartment so I had to wait in the hallway to see my boyfreind. At the end we had the impression that the owner wanted to fill up the rooms and not caring about the services that were offered (at least regular cleaning of the toilets). Well, the bright point was the location, everything else was mediocre. You can go if you really don't know where to go, otherwise check with other places.

You can't find the place, no signs and number 36 is noton the building. The windows don't close and they don't have a TV room so people stand in the tiny cluthered hall outside rooms to visit and you can't sleep for the noise.

We were in the hostel michelangelo palace last September. Was a horrible experience by diverse reasons: 1- The rooms are a great deal more small than what appear in the page web 2- Some days do not clean the rooms neither do the beds (by rest of the personnel) 3- The baths are always very dirty 4- There is not common zones, the reception this in a narrow walkway in which at night sleeps the hostel staff thrown in a mattress 5- themselves can Not smoke in the rooms nevertheless the staff of the hotel smokes without stopping in a walkway without ventilation 6- is supposed that the price includes the breakfast (coffee and croinsant) nevertheless on sunday the café is closed, and there is not breakfast.7- The staff of the hotel does not have any education (seem removed of a movie of the mafia) For all these reasons and because the price is very expensive for the room that give you, do not go to Michelangelo Palace. There are a great deal better and cheaper hotels.

Bathrooms: Only 1 out of 3 bathrooms fully funtional. One had a leaky toilet and the shower door kept falling off. Also the showers were filthy.Staff: Rather odd, except the lady during the day who was pleasant and friendly. The staff during the night played loud music past the 11 o'clock curfew. The manager seemed more interested in pursuing his love life in the corridor. No smoking was allowed in the rooms but this did not apply to the reception area.Rooms: Adequate and very clean, but tea making facilities would have been a bonus as no kitchen was available.Included breakfast: Dry croissants, grumpy staff and repulsive coffee.

Staff: creepy, weird, play music during the night, pursuing love life in the corridor.Bathrooms: leaky toilet, shower door falls off, only 1 of 3 bathrooms fully functional.Kitchen: non-existentRooms: clean and comfortableFree breakfast: grumpy staff, dry croissantsLeaving luggage: wanted to charge per person not per bag (we were 8 people with 3 bags)An insult to Michelangelo, well worth avoiding!
