I read all the reviews on this web page and was scared out of my mind. I didn't want to be bit by bugs. My friend and I went to Rome for 5 days this past thanksgiving day weekend. The hostel is only 4 blocks away from the train station (of course this time we flew in and that's about an hour away from the train station) The hostel was clean, safe and friendly. We stayed in a "mix" dorm ... the two of us plus 4 guys in a 6 bed room. Which was no problem. The beds were warm .. the bathrooms were down the hall ... 4 bathrooms with showers in each. I never found it a problem for the bathroom. Breakfast, which is included in the stay ... we never had. But I heard it wasn't too good anyway. There is one key for each room so you have to trust your roommates wont lock you out. I thought this hostel was a lot better than i thought it was going to be. I think in the summer time it might get a little hectic but if you stay in Rome in the non-tourist (i know its hard because its such a tourist city) months you should be fine to stay here. (only thing i didn't like was one of our roommates snored the whole time and we didn't sleep for about 2 days)

At the Hotel Stargate, spent one night in a bottom bunk. The next morning a few bites appeared. By the end of the day more appeared. Needless to say I made some noise about it and recieved a new room. TOO LATE!! Sadly, for their sakes because I wouldn´t have left without blood if I had known, I was in such a rush to get to the train station at 7 in the morning that I just didn´t notice the 200 and counting bites across my back!! Imagine going all the way to Florence when your freind notices that your back makes you look like a leper. All in all I HIGHLY reccomend that you do not take my warning lightly. Wandering around in 100 degree weather with bites that are so tightly clustered that they look like a rash. The constant rubbing from the backpack definitely doesn´t help either. DON´T EVER STAY AT HOTEL STARGATE!!!!!!!!!!

Stargate hostle isn't a horrible place.... but I've definetely stayed in better ones. In general it's clean and only a few blocks from the train station, but it kinda gives off this old, beaten up, sketchy feel. The rooms are very basic, the shower.... there is hot water but it floods. And I agree with another reviewer that the website is very well made and very misleading. The internet point is an entirely different part a few blocks away, but it does offer good access at a decent rate. All in all I would say, stay somewhere else if you can.

stayed here for 5 nights in the summer 2002, we had a massive room with a bath tub in it!! if you are a traveller then you know that is luxury. We also had a fridge but it was hidden and we only found it on the last day! 2 mins from train station, easy to get to colosseum and metro. Try Spizzico Pizza - cheap and lovely fast food chain.

I stayed 3 nights there I'n I could say I have almost no complaints. It's only young people staying there, the rooms are kept very clean, bathrooms generally as well. the showers could have been better, but still usable and I always had warm water.

The staff was pretty friendly and they are at the counter 24 hours so you can come back whenever you want.

There is no bar or something but a very good (a bit small though) kitchen that has everything you need to prepare food and eat it. It's a good place to meet the other bagpackers there.

The location is not so bad either, from my window I could see Termini Station. It's only a bit too hot.

so all in all, it is a very acceptable place that didnt leave any real bad impression. i recommend it

I stayed at this hostel on two separate occasions last summer. There are alot of hostels in the same area near the station but this one seemed the friendliest to me and had a bed both times. You get a key so there is no curfew. Alot of Aussie and American jocks an such. Six beds to a room. I really did not care about a common room to hang out in. The bathrooms were clean when I was there only a little cramped and the showers were REALLY cold unless you catch them during the five minutes a day that they are warm. Overall, if you are looking for a clean, simple place to lay your head for a few hours a night you can't go wrong.

I booked to stay in this hostel for five nights but quit it after just two. Its website is very impressive - and equally misleading! Despite what they claim they do not have any internet facilites - the place shown on the website is a completely separate internet cafe two blocks away...the chancers! It was reasonably clean and the staff were friendly enough, but there was no common room and only one VERY nasty shower. I was in a six person dorm and paid 25 Euro each night...other places were cheaper and MUCH nicer.
