BUG Review
This hostel has mostly private rooms, plus Internet access and a very nice garden and an organic vegetarian café. It is a clean and well maintained hostel with stylish furnishings in the common areas. The staff are very helpful in regard to suggestions on things to see and do around Rome, but it is not the most sociable hostel if you want to stay up late and party.

This was my first time in a hostel. I had no idea what to expect. When I was trying to find the place, I got scared that I had made a huge mistake. The area where teh Beehive is found is rather seedy. Hwoever, when i found it, I was quite relieved to find a clean and bright home for my stay. I stayed in the 8bed dormroom and I was the youngest one there (I'm 20). This attests to the Beehive's professional appeal. The staff was nice, and the food was tasty. However, it should be noted that the supper portions are not that big. The bathroom came with handsoap, shampoo and some bodywash. Everything was very clean. This hostel is highly recommended.

This place was really clean and its small size means that you get to meet the other people in the place. It does lack a 24 hour common room but they do have a reading light for every bed. Staff could be a little grumpy when you return late at night but all in all were very helpful. Towels were supplied which is always good and the shower facilities were good too. It has a great central location really close to the train station and from there it is easy to walk, subway or bus your way around. Keep an eye out for Ingmar the cat but dont feed the big fella. He has had more than enough... Basically if you are after a base from which to attack all that Rome has to offer then this is a great spot. Party people might be better off at another joint

We stayed in an apartment in October 04 and were very pleased with it. The area was OK, a bit of litter but we always felt safe even later in the evening.

The apartment itself was great, we were over there with some friends who were staying in a hotel - we invited them for dinner one evening to show the apartment off! It was cleaned everyday and the rooms were nice and large. To add some balance I guess the kitchen could have been bigger, it was only really suitable for one group cooking at a time but that was never a problem in the 6 nights we stayed. There was a small lift which was adequate but we mostly used the stairs except with luggage. Free local calls and internet access were a bit of a bonus.

We'll try to book this place again next time we go to Rome and would recommend it to anyone.

The beehive also have apartments that are off site from the hostel. I stayed at one of these apartments and the quality difference was like night and day. The hostel is nice, clean and in a good area. All the reviews are correct about the hostel but the apartments are cold, dank and in, what the owner himself calls, a "downtrodden area".

These apartments are on the opposite side of the Roma Termini as the Hostel. This means you have to first go to the Hostel, register and pay then take you and your belongings back through the terminal and then to the street that the apartments are on. The streets were poorly lit, trash and graffiti were everywhere and there was a strong stench coming from the street. I would stongly discourage anyone from chossing one of the Beehive apartments to stay in. You can find better and more comfortable accomadations elsewhere for the same money, in my opinion.

The Beehive is definitely the best hostel I stayed during my trip to Italy.

The dorm and bathrooms were always spotless. The location is perfect, just one block from Termini Station where you can catch a bus to tour the city, a train to leave Rome or the metro. Very secure, I never felt threatened not even at night.

And the best of all is Ingmar (the cat and REAL owner of the hostel). He's beautiful! I definitely recommend the hostel.

This place is great. Very close to train station where you can catch bus or subway. From what I could tell, only one room was a true "hostel" room (eight beds) as the other rooms all held double beds. Bathrooms were super clean (one even had a tub!), kitchen was big and gorgeous, outside sitting area is lovely. Staff was friendly and security is very good. Would stay there again.

The best thing about this hostel is the fact that it's American owned, thus the great service and clean facilities. This hostel is very close to the Termini station, making it convenient to take the metro to other parts of the city. The rooms were large, and the kitchen and bathrooms were very nice and clean! I stayed at the Beehive with a friend two nights in June in an 8 bed room, and would rate it as one of the best hostels we stayed in. One important note - don't book here if you are allergic to cats. There is a huge cat that roams around the hostel, and sleeps wherever he wants. Even though he's as big as a German Sheppard, he's very nice.

we stayed in the beehive for two nights and i understand what erverbody likes about it: its a hotel with a dorm. thats a very good deal. but if you see a hostel as a place too meet cool people and like that sort of youthfulm, a little chaotic atmosphere then this may not fit the bill. i guess its just too well managed and because of that has no possibilty to get a soul. the rooms are very nice and look out for the cat ingmar a very nice fellah.

PS the free beehive guideline for rome is great

This hostel is run by americans, so you can't go wrong. My friend and I saw the reviews on this site and thought we couldn't go wrong and we didn't. We stayed 2 nights in an 8 bedded dorm. The room was huge and the bathrooms and rooms are sparkling clean. It is just a minute or two walk from the train station. I would stay here again if I return to Rome.
