I stayed at The yellow for about 3 days and truely wish i was there for longer. They had everything i needed, staff that knew a lot about the city (they sent me on these tours that were pukka, small groups, no grannies, funny and informative) then they sent me on pubcrawls, again awesome!!!!!!
the rooms were propa spacious and clean
they had lockers underneath each bed that were huge!!
had high security aswell with someone on the main door at night and then keycard entry to each floor and individual dorms.
and once again the staff were just awesome.
i couldnt ask for more in a hostel!!!!!!
well done

Yellow hostel is one of the best hostels I have ever stayed at. The staff is very friendly and they have all the information to make your stay in Rome fun, safe, easy and most of all STRESS FREE! Also the tours through the hostel (romeing tours) were great, very informative and fast paced.

We only stayed in this hostel one night and I thought it was great. If it weren't for the heat have in Italy, we would have stayed longer, there is no A/C. The service was very good and so were the guests. I wasn't able to find the common room, but we still had a great time. The breakfast was a little over rated, since it was only coffee and a little debbie snack. Close to the Metro and a cool bar. Just don't tell my friends that I thought this place was the Bomb!!!

I'll try not to rant, but here I've read reviews from people with whom I'd disagree very fundamentally on the basic reasons for travelling. To at least a few of the reviewers here, their basic reason for travelling seems to see lots of sights. I went to meet different people, people I'd never meet at home. In Yellow, more than else I stayed I succeeded in this. Really cool staff, really cool clientele. Having stayed 3 weeks there, I guess I'd qualify as a longtimer so many here derided. I had no intention of staying that long, I just never got around to leaving. I'm not going to start replying to individuals, but the person who complained about being woken at 2am by people coming in? Curfews are a bad thing, remember? Ok, so toilet/shower facilities aren't fantastic, but it's a hostel, so I never expect anything too remarkable. Overall, fantastic experience, it'll be my main reason for my return trip to Rome.

Listen:If you didn't get enough of your freshman-year college dorm experience--sharing two god awful bathrooms amongst 30-40 of your new travel mates--go Yellow. (SEE previous travelers bathroom reviews, they sum it up well.) Good enough for 18-21 year olds with low expectations. The place comes with a cultish hype , 'longtermers' lingering about in the kitchen, and less than comfortable mattresses... Just travel a weeee bit to compare it to some other much hyped hostels that really deliver (SEE wombats/vienna, circus/berlin) and you'll realize that there are hostels out there that are great fun for socializing, have a bar, have a helpful staff AND (get this!) more bathrooms, cleaner bathrooms, less crowded rooms, newer beds, newer everything, cleaner everything, great location within said city, etc, etc, etc...

I really enjoyed my stay at the Yellow Hostel. I stayed for nine nights in August 2003. It was really great having a kitchen and a grocery store near by, it made eating really inexpensive. It was also only a few blocks from the train station and 2 subway stations. The rooms were nice and clean. The free internet was amazing and it was really nice having free movies to watch in the common area during or after dinner. The common area (kitchen, lounge, internet and movies) was a really great place to meet people. The two things I didn't like about the hostel was that they say they have airconditioning, well they have airconditioning but only in the common area and not in the rooms, but there was a fan in the room so it wasn't too bad at night. Also the bathrooms were sort of a problem, I was on the second floor and you had to walk through a bedroom before you could get to the bathroom, I know it wasn't nice for the people staying in that room to have people walking through their room at all hours of the night. I know the third floor did not have that problem. So if you want to stay at the Yellow hostel which I would highly recommend, I would suggest requesting a room on the third floor.

This hostel was great! Very friendly atmosphere and staff. It felt so nice I received a warm welcome from the staff when I walked in the door. I knew right away that this experience would be much different than the rest. Thank you so much.

like anywhere you stay, you need to know what you want. physically,Yellow is a collection of four apartment floors[floor 1: reception, lounge, laundry, more than adequate kitchen(this coming from a skilled cook),dvd room(good collection behind the desk)and free internet. floor 2,3 and 5: multiple dorm levels]with dorms ranging from approx. 6 to 12 beds,an occasional wait for a shower(which you can skip from time to time because you have to wade through a bath to reach it on those rare occasions when an oblivious, hungover hosteler has let the shower overflow),and located just 4.5 blocks from Termini. The staff speaks german, spanish, icelandic, albanian, english-english, aussie-english, american-english(brooklyn style)and yes, even italian, and are there to help and serve you 24 hours a day(they're also very friendly and appreciate a good ass slap from the occasional charming american). but all of that doesn't even begin to describe it. those who came looking for a quiet place to sleep and room service didn't do enough research before booking. yes, the beds sag a bit, people come in late, the reception desk(bar)is open and running 24 hours a day and there's only 1 shower per 2.000 people(tip, the second floor has by far the nicest single bathroom but the third has multiple acceptable ones and the brightest dorms),but Yellow is a family. . .a family that consists mainly of 19 to 25 year old travelers looking to partake in the true roman spirit. you wake up,a bit rough around the edges, walk through someone else's dorm half-naked to get to your shower(hey they're family, then again,if you partied hard enough the night before,no one's in their room at that point)get downstairs in time to make yoursellf an espresso before you go on your morning tour of the vatican, take a meandering walk back to the hostel, eat with any of the numerous cohorts who've joined forces for dinner, then watch a dvd to recouperate before you head out on the night tour of rome which is followed by a decadent pub crawl (check the pictures @ www.romeingtours.com) only to return to the hostel and hang out and listen to music with the extemely social night staff until the wee hours of the morning (the sound of which, amazingly enough, doesn't seem to reach the dorms. . . okay, maybe on the REALLY rowdy nights). the price is reasonable, close to the lowest i found in rome, and you get a free t-shirt if you stay five days or more. if you want more info than that you're just going to have to check it out for yourself. enjoy!p.s. sorry for keeping you up that night on the 5th floor-the guy two bunks away

I booked this hostel based on the reviews on this sight and on their webpage, and boy was I disappointed. I stayed on the fifth floor, and shared two bathrooms between 30-40 people. I was in an 11 bed dorm, and was awoken not only by the constant stream of people coming in after 2 a.m., but the two people having sex two beds away from me. The matresses are old and spongy, and I kinda sunk into mine. One of the two bathrooms consistanly had an inch of muddy water on the floor, and the showere had about 3 inches of water. I am not sure if I was cleaner or dirtier after the shower or not. I suppose the fact that I didn't catch an STD in my feet was a small feat. Finally, the culture of this hostel confounded me. Rather than actually going out and seeing the great city of Rome, many of the people were just content hanging out at the hostel all day. They were convinced that it was a great place. I personally didn't see it, but maybe you will if you stay there. I switched after 2 nights to Alessandro Independenzia (not listed on this site, but affiliated witht he other 2 Alessandro hostels), and while it wasn't that great, at least they kept it to 6 to a room, breakfast was included, and the bathrooms were clean.
