Moved out of the hostel very promptly as the receptionist and manager Daniella was such a rude, scowling and bitter person. Her presence was toxic and i know few of the guests enjoyed her presence. It was as if we weren't welcome as guests, but just paying customers. After reading similiar reviews to my own, she needs to take a good look at herself, as some reviews i've read go back at least four years.

like the proir reviews stated, the hostel is clean but sterile. the setting is beautiful. to find the hostel, take the bus from train station to plaza San Pietro (at the bottom of town) and then walk back down the road to the first hairpin turn. there is a small roadway with a hostel sign branching off this hairpin turn. walk down this small road until you see the hostel. it took me 10 minutes to walk back uphill from the hostel to the bus stop with full pack. the hostel was clean. there is a big dining room and has tables for meals. not many people socializing. i took the dinner (8.50 euros) the first night. it was ok, but too me, not worth it. the next night i ate a massive meal in the self service restaurant on the main plaza for 10.50. the point is that you can spend a little more money and get a lot more meal. i recommend the hosel as a cheap place to stay in assisi. the hostel location is beautiful, and the grounds are nice. laundry is avaliable. it is only 10 minutes from the town. skip the meal. have fun.

This hostel is in the most beautiful location. It was so nice to hear lots of birds and watch the sun disappear in the afternoon behind the trees. The countryside was beautiful. The hostel is spotless. Outside tables and chairs. Clothesline. Dining area with good quality meals and wine/beer. The room with 6 beds and spotless bathrooms. Daniela. the owner and receptionist, wasn't very friendly - she seemed pretty stressed. This hostel is a long way from the station. I caught a taxi to the station because the long, but flat road, doesnt have a sidewalk. This hostel is perfect if you have a car.A word of warning - on arriving I caught a bus (which I recommend to save a long walk) from the station which stops at the bottom of Assisi gates on the top of a hill. I was told by the bus driver to walk down the hill to the hostel - which I did. The hill is very steep and I kept walking, walking - dreading the difficult walk back if I couldn't find the hostel - which I couldn't. Back up the hill! Asked a shopkeeper - he said down the hill - I repeated the walk and still couldn't find the hostel. After the struggle to the top of the hill again - I decided to book in somewhere else - I was very tired and fed up! Couldn't get the phone to work so decided to get a taxi. Both taxi trips really added to the cost of the hostel accommodation. The next day a woman approached me (she was half way down the hill - I had been for a walk) and had also walked up and down this steep hill twice. She said she was about to just sit down and cry - I felt the same. The hostel should have signs - like other accommodation did. Also two men on bikes went through the same torment. The road to the hostel (if you catch the bus to the town) is a side road. You walk down the hill from the bus stop, PASS the first road to the left and take the SECOND road on the left. It's at the FIRST bend and is a single lane road - the hostel is near the bottom of the hill on the right! This is a beautiful hostel and a beautiful setting - but not for someone with lots of luggage unless you are prepared to catch a taxi.

I have heard wonderful things about the hospitality at the ostello della pace. Having visited it 6 years ago, I was keen to go back. However, after lugging my luggage 2 km from the train station in the rain, and arriving to check in at 3.30 pm (the correct checkin time), I was met with a frown and a sigh from Daniela, who ordered me to wait for 20 mins while she resumed yelling at her kids and talking on the phone. The kids were really acting up, and she was literally screaming at them every minute. made me wince.Unsmilingly, she checked me in and told me not to eat in the bed room and to be out by 9.30 am with my linen. She then went back to screaming at her kids.Dinner wasnt much better. I went downstairs to write in my journal and was asked to move to a table further away from the diners...and closer to the bickering kids doing their homework. The husband then started to cop the yelling from his wife about leaving the windowns open that day...altogether enough to put you on the edge. The rooms are clean and the breakfast passable, but then name ostello della pace (hostel of the peace),...couldn't be farther from the truth!!

We had Assisi on our travel plan, but did not know where to stay. We arrived at the hostel without a booking and found that they were booked full. This was not what we wanted to hear. The hostel managers asked if we could wait around for a couple of hours and they would try to find a place for us to stay. We went for a walk up to the city of Assisi, and when we got back they had made room for us, something that other hostels would never do. We had planned to stay 1 night and then move on, we loved it so much we stayed for another 5 nights, becoming part of the Hostel Family. We talked about our planned trip of Europe, with other guests from around the world and the very friendly hostel managers, we felt like we were staying with long lost family, everyone was interested in Australia, so we invited them all to come and visit us in Perth. The hostel was clean, tidy and VERYfriendly, Pepe did the cooking and it was superb. They helped us to pre-book accommodation, (they spoke very good Italian - and we didn't, and very good Australian too). If we did not have to get on with the rest of our trip, we would probably still be there. We loved the place and are planning our next trip already. If you are looking for some place quiet and beautiful we recommend Ostello della Pace! Assisi is an absolutely magical place. We are sure that if you go there you too would be welcomed as family. Of all the Hostels that we stayed in, this was the most friendly and nicest.

We stayed at Ostello della Pace for four nights, we planned to stay just one night. We found that the owners and staff welcomed us into the hostel as part of their ever growing family. The hostel is in the most beautiful location, just under the city of Assisi. We will go back to Assisi and we Will stay at Ostello della Pace again.
