I STAYED there for a week end in the end of February.
I think the most amazing thing I have never found before in other hostels is the very exciting and friendly atmosphere: u really feel like at home, especially for the craziest and smartest swedish man in the world:CASPER!
He can organize everything for u.
by the way every night he organizes a different night life tour (pubs, lounges, discos...), so u are able to visit best latvanian places and at the same time u can avoid tourist traps.
then if u like beautiful girls.. well girls working there are really beautiful: believe to an italian man

Excellent hostel. I was greeted by a beautiful girl, who gave me a free beer, then another beautiful girl gave us a guide to the town and the hostel then another beautiful girl showed me to my bed. Frank picks good staff.The hostel is really clean, all the staff are really helpful and friendly, and the girls are amazing. Beds are cheap and comfy. Ideally located in the Old Town, a 10 minute walk from the train station, you can easily walk to all the sights, bars and restaraunts.Franks has a lively bar with seperate smoking area so there are always plenty folk about for a chat over a beer, beers are half-price Mon-Wed, and they organise nights out to clubs every night with discounted entrance price.Excellent hostel, I'll be back next time i'm in Riga.

Frank's is a good hostel. The staff are certainly great and there is a fantastic bar/social area. But since everyone else's reviews talk of all the positives, I thought I would point out a few downsides of this hostel. First, if you booked the hostel on the internet before arriving, it was 4.90 LATS (about 5 british pounds) a night... and yes - the LAT (latvian currency) is numerically stronger than the pound. I did not book though, thinking that the price would be the same if I simply rocked up and booked a room at the door. When I arrived, they told me it was 11 LATS a night for the same room. I asked why there was a 120% price difference, but the girl answered "sometimes hostelworld.com has specials..." (weird!). In any case, she kindly let me go upstairs, jump on the net and book the hostel at more than half the price...! Point of the story: book through the internet before you go as it's much much cheaper - for no good reason! Second, you can be unlucky by being there when the hostel (& bar) is full of loud Ryan-Air power drinking idiots whose mumblings are apparently in english. Thankfully, the ones who were there left the day after I arrived. Third, I like a clean hostel and clean bathrooms. However, it seemed that every single time I opened the bathroom door, there was a cleaner (female) in there cleaning away. It almost seemed as if they cleaned the bathrooms 20 times a day and given that you have to get naked in the bathroom area before stepping into the shower recess, I found that I continually had to wait until they finished cleaning before having a shower. Fourth, I didn't like Riga itself all that much. It is full of touristy dives that cater for the English and Irish - lots of pubs called "the london" and "paddys" and so on. Most of the food is fast, deep fried and/or slop. If I'm in eastern europe, I want to go to eastern european style bars and restaurants. I don't like Riga's attempt to londonise itself for the tourist market.Finally, I don't recommend this hostel if you are the type of traveler who enjoys sitting in the common room at night with a book and some peace and quiet. At night time, the bar is pumping. But I found that the people who were a bit quiet usually came around, drank a few beers and go it on all the fun. Frank's offers two main activities outside the hostel: shooting guns and bobsled. You book and pay for these activities at the hostel, but I found that both activities seemed very overpriced for Riga. Have fun.

If carlsberg made hostels it would be this one. Top place and top people. Best place i've ever stayed. We were already booking to come back before we left.

Myself and my buddies stayed at franks last week and all i can say is that it is a great hostel! We payed about 2 pounds a night! Drinking in the common room is definitely encouraged and people that stay there seem to be up for some fun, overall a real good hostel for a great price!

this is a great hostel with very good and FRIENDLY FUN staff ,the rooms are very clean and you get doonas and fresh clean linen they have free internet plenty of social areas and lots of good recomendations for things to do a little hard to find but in a good place near the old town and night life ,definately try this place when in riga

I´ve stayed there for 7 wonderful nights.Have a lot of fun at chill out room and the living room,kitchen facilities, free beer at check in, the ladies working at the hostel were very helpful (as beautyful) and frank the owner is a great guy(maybe he has a problem with cricket.. is that a game? lol). scheduled go out every night at the board, beach parties on sunday.. and quiet rooms when you want to rest... friendly fun franks has everything for every kind of backpacker.. definetely the place to be at..
