Hostel Turiba is quite dirty. The rooms, the bedlinen, the toilets, the showers, the kitchens... everything is rather dirty. The doors of the rooms don't seem that good, but there are security cameras on the corridors, so maybe it's not that unsafe. The hostel is located in a rather quiet place right on the outskirts of the city. There is a train station right next to the hostel, where you can take a train to the city center in just a few minutes. There are also bus stops close to the hostel, so it's not really a problem to get to the center. This hostel is alright for short stays, it's cheap and rather quiet. But if you want a clean place to stay I recommend you search for something better.

The large complex called Turiba (more a 70's style instructing-centre than a hostel) is situated far from the Riga's downtown but you just need to take trolleybus # 8 from its terminus stop next to the BlackHeads and St. Peter's church (trolleybus conductor will tell you where to get off if you speak Russian or just wait for board announcement saying "Graudu iela"after some 20 min's of your ride). Turiba provides rather spacoius and clean rooms with a sink and well-worn extremely basic furniture. I travelled alone and despite only few rooms were taken I had to pay for all three beds in my room (about 15euros/day in summer 2001). The place seems to be safe and quiet (in spite of some train noises at night). The toilets and showers need some refreshing. The recepionists (Rus & some Eng spoken) are friendly and it's not a problem if you arrive early in the morning. There's a cafe on the ground floor and a well stocked self-service shop close to the trolleybus stop.
