I would go back to Luxembourg just for this hostel. It is a really superb place. It is a bit far from the train station but defintely worth the commute. It is walking distance to the center though. When we arrived in our room we were in awe. The room was sooooo spacious and better yet everything is new, so it's very very clean. The staff were also very friendly and helpful. The showers are those push the button type where the water stops which can get annoying but if u push it several times it lasts long enough. The pressure and warmth make up for it (and cleanliness of course). This is a very safe, clean and friendly hostel. You could bring a family here. For backpackers it's very big and you'd think that it could be very easy not to meet anyone but I was surprised by how many people use the common room, so u could meet people if u wanted to. Cons: no kitchen....that's it. This is really a superb hostel. Luxembourg is a beautiful country, I regret only staying a day, next time Im going, I'll be staying for awhile and this will be the place I stay.

There aren't a plethora of options in Luxembourg, but really it's a pretty good place. Typical for HI hostels, but there is a nice patio outside and plenty of options for meals other than breakfast (they have a small menu to choose from). Clean and nondescript. The bus will drop you off right at the end of the bridge, and it's a short walk down the hill.

Pretty much the prototypical HI hostel: clean, decent breakfast, a bar that serves some decent meals, and bereft of any atmosphere whatsoever. There's also a TV room and basketball out back. The internet costs 3 Euros for 30 minutes, which is extortion.Of course, you have no other choice in Luxembourg City, since this is the only hostel and every other accommodation option is so expensive. You'll notice that there are families and business travellers staying at the hostel because they can't afford to stay anywhere else in town. *Shrugs* Whatever.

The current price for members is 16,30. I am not an HI member, paid and booked online, and wasn't asked for my card, so I was only charged 16,30. The room and bathroom (6-bed dorm, shower & toilet across the hall) were spotless and I always saw someone with a cleaning cart. In terms of comfort, the bed was just okay. However, there were large lockers (large enough to stash luggage, and there was even a bar with hangers so you could hang a few things if you wanted) and an in-room sink. You can rent locks from the reception. The reception was very friendly and made sure to give us a free city map, and you can even buy postcards and stamps. My only complaint there is that I saw a non-affiliated person get removed from the hostel (which is a good thing!) but the manager seemed to use a whole lot more force than necessary. The breakfast was also the best included-with-room breakfast that I have had. It was typically European (bread, meat, cheese, müsli, coffee, tee, etc.) but the quality of the ingredients was much higher than usual, including warm, fresh bread. In general I found eating out in Luxembourg to be a bit expensive (with the exception of housing rental and eating out, the cost of everything else was noticeably cheaper than in Germany though; evidently the taxes are quite low there), especially because I didn't see any street vendors (boulangeries were quite cheap but closed by 17, and restaurant specials were generally sold out by 15), but was able to make small sandwiches at breakfast and munch on them throughout the day.It was easy to get to the hostel on bus route 9; 1,20 for a short trip. Get off at the Alt-Münster stop, backtrack under the bridge, and Rue du Fort Olisy is the first street on the other side of the bridge. Take a very steep foot path to the bottom of a valley (it's steep enough that when climbing up, I had to stop halfway to catch my breath), and you're there. At the top of the hill, it's less than 5 minutes to get to the top of the Foretresse and less than 10 minutes to the Centre. Ambling through town, it was around 30-40 minutes to walk to the train station. I docked a star for the manager's force and for the steep hill. Otherwise, this place featured everything I look for and like in a hostel.

The youth hostell in luxemburg has had a very good reconstruction, and now has 6 bed rooms with private toilet and shower. These rooms can only be opened with your personal keycard, so your belongings are safe inside your room. The staff is helpfull and kind. Breakfast is good, with freshly baked bread. The hosstell has improved very much within one year, so, keep up the good work!

i stayed here for 2 nights in early september.if you have ever been to one of these large, extremely well-regulated, institutional HI hostels--this one is no exception. it's brand new and modern, squeaky clean, and has new and comfy beds/sheets. the security is high-tech, utilizing key cards, and everybody gets his/her own locker (you need your own lock). the amenities are really great--a tasty smorgasbord of a breakfast, a dinner menu, and a bar with a deck.what people say about the location is true: it is nowhere near the center of anything. it's a 15 or 20 minute walk (straight upwards) to the town center (i didn't try the bus). it's clear across the very confusing town from the train station. the tucked-away location is peaceful and quiet, though, and in a way that brings out the beauty of this unique city.the two staff members i encountered were grouchy, impatient, and condescending. but hey, don't let their misery ruin your time. plus, it is a huge place so maybe there are non-depressed people working there too. if you don't expect any sort of heart-warming welcome, this is a fine place to stay. in luxembourg, which overall is pretty dang expensive, there may not be much of a choice.

This place is more like a hotel than a hostel. Very modern, clean and spacious - it's absolutely huge - with a nice bar that also serves food (useful, since this place is nowhere near the centre of town). Has some really good facilities like vending machines, internet, payphones...sadly none of them were working when i stayed here!!!Not your typical backpacker hostel, a lot of families/youth groups/ pensioner tours seemed to be staying there when we were. This isn't a bad thing, just means the vibe's a bit different from a lot of other hostels. This isn't helped by the fact that you really are right on the outskirts of town - it's very picturesque but there's nowhere to go!! Major plus for this place - amazing breakfast!!! It had something other than bread and jam!!!! Things to be aware of - it's tricky to find. Well, it's fine as soon as you're on the bus, but finding the right bus proved to be a bit complicated - had to speak 3 languages to determine which bus i needed!

I was unsure about this hostel when I first arrived. It is under some major renovations / additions. But my stay turned out to be very comfortable. Very good rates. Stayed in a large dorm room (approx 30-32 beds), however every 8 beds were cordened off into a seperate section, so they didn't seem too large. Security lockers were available. No curfew. Good breakfast. Hot showers, thou only two private ones for males - all the others are in the open. Dorms were locked between 10.00 and 1.00 (I think) but you could still use common areas. Easy to get to from the central train station. Met some great and friendly people here. Think this is a good hostel option for a small City.

This was my first ever hostel stay and the most difficult part was actually getting from the train station to the hostel. English isn't as readily spoken in Luxembourg as in the Netherlands and my pronounciation of the name and address of the hostel wasn't great. After head shakes and shrugs from a couple of bus drivers, one fellow led me to the right bus. The ride took about 15 minutes and luckily, I struck up a conversation with a woman who worked at the hostel so she got me right to the door. A good thing too since the downhill path from the bus stop isn't that easy to find and the hostel isn't visible from the road. It's located under the arch of one of Luxembourg's bridges and is surrounded by tall trees. It looks like it might have been a school at one time. One morning, I came across a fellow climbing the arch of the bridge - getting into practice for a mountain climb, I guess. My dorm room was on the third floor and was shared with 19 other women. There were 10 bunks but the room was divided into smaller sections with 2 or 4 bunks per section. We shared a bathroom with toilet and sinks but the showers were in the basement. The showers left something to be desired - rows of open stalls with fixtures badly in need of modernization. I was lucky enough to get there early so no one else was around and the water was hot and plentiful.Breakfast was the best part - cheese (& meat if desired), buns, croissant, jams and a selection of cold cereal provided a good start to the day. In fact, there was more food than I could eat. There was also copious amounts of coffee or tea, including Pickwick's fruit cocktail blend which has since become one of my favorites. The hostel had a small bar and restaurant. One rainy night, I stayed in for supper and had vegetarian lasagne. The large portion was very good and was extremely cheap - less than $6.00.Cost per night at the hostel was approximately $15.00 including sheets. Some people bring their own but for me, it was easier to pay a little extra and get freshly washed and pressed sheets rather than putting up with the extra weight and bother of bringing my own.Overall, I enjoyed the hostel stay and found it extremely good value for budget accommodations. As a solo traveller, it was great to meet and interact with so many people, including fellow Canadians, Americans, Australians, Irish and Japanese. Many nationalities were represented at the hostel and I wasn't even the oldest - that honor went to a Korean lady in her 60s who was spending a few months travelling through Europe on her own.I booked online through : luxembourg@youthhostels.lu

end of april 2003 i visited a friend in luxembourg and was therefore looking for a value-for-money accomodation in the capital. as we all know, luxusbourg is also the capital of money, so hotels there are quite expensive (not as bad as in london), so i came to the idea to stay in the local youthhostel. the necessary information was easily obtained over the internet (www.youthhostels.lu) and the booking went problem-free via telefax. rooms: they offer single rooms up to dormitories with 20 beds. interesting: a bed in a 20 bed dorm is only 8 euro cheaper than a single room (15.50 / 23.00 eur) http://www.youthhostels.lu/e/auberges/luxembourg/auberge.htm l due to some fair in luxemburg during my stay, all i could get was a bed in a dorm that i took anyway. thanks to my friend's driving skills the hostel was easily found, it is located in a quiet street just below the city centre. there's plenty of free parking space around the house. the check-in itself was done quickly, linen are provided, a lock for the closets however are not, so make sure you bring your own. bathrooms and showers: are located on every floor and in the basement and are as clean as it is usual and possible in a large hostel. breakfast is offered as a buffet (bread and dishes are provided in a room opposite to the food hall). it contains different styles of mortadella, cheese, jam, honey, cornflakes, müesli, cocoa, tea, coffee and o-juice. just the right thing for a good start in the day. the hostel's most important advantage is that it's very close to the centre. follow the footpath that's leading upon the hill and you'll be with the casemates and the medieval city within 5 - 10 minutes. there's also a street going there, but finding a parking space in the city is far more difficult than walking this short distance... ;-) So leave your car with the hostel and enjoy a nice view over the casemates. If you want to stay in a central location at a reasonable price, this hostel is THE place to go in Luxembourg. More comfort can be expected in a hotel or B&B in the outskirts of the city. Also interesting is the review of a hotel that I just Hostel Address: 2, rue du Fort Olisy L-2261 Luxembourg Tel: (352) 22 68 89 / 22 19 20 Fax: (352) 22 33 60 E-mail: luxembourg@youthhostels.lu Languages spoken are: Luxembourgish (yes, this is a unique language :-), German, French and English (Hint: Once you're in Luxembourg, you're almost in Trier (Germany) that is famous for it's ancient roman heritage. So if your schedule allows, make sure you don't miss it) P.S.: For some reason, copy'n'paste killed some of the capital letters I used in my review.
