I lived at the University Residence for four months. It is functional and a great place to meet lots of interesting people. However, customer service is non-existent. I found the staff to be largely inaccessible, unhelpful, and patronizing. My first night, I had no sheets, no towels, and no one in sight to provide me with these necessities! The rooms are decent as far as hostels go. You'll likely share a room with one other person in a suite that occupies six. I wouldn't touch the pool if I were you! Minimal internet access is available for a charge. It would be worth a little extra $$ to stay in a hotel; however, the Residence is acceptable for a short stay. Just don't try it for four months like I did!!

Although the staff are never in good moods and the winter rains often flood the ground floor, you get clean beds and rooms for the night and the facilities to cook, with sizable fridges. It also doubles as the residence for the foreign students of the university, so you have the chance to meet a lot of people from all over the world whie you are there. It is close to a grocery store and bakery, along with the local bus route. Watch out for the pool, though, since they rarely clean it. Infections were rampant while I was there. Overall, satisfactory, but the price is actually comparable to some smaller hotels and pensiones. If you have the time, try them first, but if not, this is decent.
