BUG review
This hostel is located at the beginning of the Red Light District, and is not well marked as a hostel, more so as a sports bar. Inside is a dark and dingy little bar with not much atmosphere except on game nights. Upstairs are some pretty grubby dorms with moldy showers. They don’t offer much in the way of facilities and amenities, the entire building wreaks of stale smoke, and there is no breakfast. Reception is just at the bar, staff are not the most affable bunch, and you have to leave your key there when you leave.

this place is what i would have expected from a hostel in the Red Light. relatively close to the train station and a good location for the Red Light this place is somewhat of a sh*t hole. i received confirmation it was the place i was looking for from some strung-out chicks right in front. no lie. when i walked into the room i was greeted by 3 bakes smokin and rollin up joints. Welcome to Amsterdam! everyone in my room was cool. i didn't get a safe vibe upon arriving but i had run into no issues by the end of my stay. the rooms had lockers but you need your own lock. bathrooms were clean enough. my shower in the room was jacked so i ended up using one in the hall. staff not the friendliest but no problems. no internet that i could find. no washer/dryers however there is a laundry mat right down the street and the guy who runs it is very friendly. this hostel has a sports bar right underneath so it's a good place to drink. food was aight. watched a Champions League semi final match with a spirited crowd. this place is definitely about location but i would look to stay somewhere else next time back. this was one of the few places available i could find so close to Queen's Day.

the globe is a great place to stay the rooms are basic but on the whole clean. the location is great but a little hard to find the first time. me and my friends stayed in the 22 person dorm, it was alright the room was airy and the other people friendly. there are lockers secured to each bed which is safe and big enough to fit ur luggage in. there was only one plug socket in the dorm but there were others in the corridoor. We found the hostel fairly quiet and were never disturbed by the people who came in and out at night. however for the price we paid, (£10 a night) it was excellent. Cheers for a great trip and i would recomend the globe to anyone traveling to amsterdam.

The Globe is an ok place if your not to high maintenance. I stayed in one of the 20 bed dorm rooms. If you can deal with people constantly coming and going then you won't have any problems. The bathrooms are ok and the bar and staff are excellent. The location is excellent as it is right in the heart of the city.

The globe is a great location if you are looking to spend a lot of time in the red light area.Rooms are clean but compact ,showers are okay but overall if you are looking for any type of luxury you should not stay here. The place was full of British people when we stayed thereBreakfeast was not the best but the staff are very friendlyThe bar was not open 24 hours when we were there but it did stay open untill 5.30 am

The previous reviewer from Canada is talking shite. All room doors are lockable and there is a locked security door barring access to non-guests. He probably shat the bed himself!!! The staff are great, rooms are very basic but clean, and the food is fine - especially the breakfasts. Bar is open 24hrs and you are in the heart of the red light district. Great sport to be had booking into restaurant on other side of canal - and jumping out the first floor window after dinner and swimming back to The Globe! Mind you the water is absolutely rank! If you are out for the craic and just want a place to crash-out afterwards, this is for you! Enjoy. Also reccommended for nights out are Banana Bar and Face Sitters!!!

I strongly urge you NOT to stay at The globe. The location was great, which is why they receive one star from me. There is no way for the staff to monitor the rooms, and rooms are not locked, leaving any hooligan to enter and do whatever they want. On saturday night about 2am (March 22nd, 2003) I came home to go to bed, only to find my sheets had been soiled with vomit and excrement, that's right! Someone was allowed to run rampant around the room during the day, and decided that would be a funny thing to do. I didn't agree. Absolutely furious I asked for a new bed and a refund. They gave me new sheets and said there is nothing else they could do. Not very helpful staff. The gentleman working reception would not even give me the name of the manager to complain to. They didn't even have an extra pillow in the hostel?!? The next morning after demanding a refund they finally gave me half of my money back. I'm still not happy with this. Someone vomitted and relieved themselves in my bed, and there was nothing they could do about it? This is horrendous. This is not good business sense, but thinking back I guess I never asked for a puke free bed, so maybe it's my fault?

The globe is the best place to stay in amsterdam! In the middle of the action, The rooms are very clean, the staff are very friendly, chatty and even got high with us! The rooms are very basic but very very good value for money. Cant wait to get there again!

The Globe is very well situated, just a couple of minutes walk from central station. It has a 24hr bar with pool table. Great atmosphere, alot of different travellers from all over the world. The staff are very helpful and friendly, food is great, well priced and conveninent. Summer months would be great for they have an outdoor seating area alongside the canal, very relaxing. They do ask that you not smoke dope inside the bar, but they have no problem with smoking in your dorm. We were in a 10 bed room, on the 3rd floor, the other dorm on the same floor was a 20 bed dorm. They were clean, nice linen and cleaned every day. The showers were great, clean and constant hot water. They have a safe available free of charge at reception. It was relatively cheap, 110 guilders for 2 nights. You can only make a reservation if you are staying more than 1 night, get there early as they were ful by 11 Sat. morn. I recommend this hostel to anyone.
