BUG review
Rotterdam’s famous Kubuswoningen (or cube houses) were designed by Piet Blom in 1984. Most of the cubes are private homes, but since June 2009 several of the cubes now house Rotterdam’s Stayokay youth hostel. The 245-bed hostel is clean and very well maintained with brand new furnishings. Amenities include a bar and restaurant and a lounge with internet access (€3 for one hour, €10 for five hours including Wi-Fi). Accommodation is in six-bed dorms with sturdy bunk beds (with individual reading lights) and en suite bathrooms. If you’re visiting Rotterdam for the city’s modern architecture, then staying here is a must. However – no matter how hard it tries – the hostel is just not as cool as the building it is in, so if you’re staying more than a few days in the city you’re best spending a night or two here and the remainder of your time at ROOM Rotterdam where there’s a more gezellige atmosphere.
About BUG's hostel reviews
This hostel was visited by one of BUG's team of hostel inspectors who write independent reviews and assess a star rating based on an objective assessment criteria.
We show up unannounced at hostels to write honest and unbiased hostel reviews. Many of BUG's reviews now feature videos and photo slideshows. BUG never receives payment for listing any establishment and BUG's researchers never accept free accommodation in exchange for favourable reviews.

On entry looks like a nice place to stay, then I met the reception staff. Stuff up with the room because of the wording of the web page. 2 beds in room, actually meant, 2 beds in a 6 share dorm room.Second night, I decided to sleep in my car due to the bed I was allocated in a different room. Messy bed with someone elses PUBIC hair in the bed and hair on the pillow.Avoid staying here at all costs.
It's trying to be as hip as the building it's in, but fails miserably. 29 August 2009
Pros:
Location, cool architecture (outside!)
Cons:
Staff is rude. Cleaning staff is either really early (before nine) or not showing up at all.

Staff is young and not service minded.
Lacked atmosphere. The rooms were dull and so minimalistically furnitured that it felt like staying at an institute. No mirror or wall art.
No lockable storage in the room only paid lockers in the lobby that for the most part where full.
Breakfast was lame, but on the other hand free.
Internet in the lobby means one computer that at the time wasn't working.
I'm an experienced traveller and would say that if you're not asking for much more than a clean place to stay at (that is if cleaning staff changed the bed linen).. sure by all means stay there.
But I'm sure you could have a much better experience elsewhere. Do come down to enjoy the architecture.
