I stayed at StayOkay Rotterdam for three nights. I loved it. I was in an 8 bedded female dorm with bathroom. The dorm was spacius and it felt secure, with lockable rooms. My room mates were very nice and I met some lovely people. The breakfast buffet was great. The hostel had extensive tourist information and the staff were knowledgeable about local facilities. It was clean and well maintained. It was a nice atmosphere there - lots of people and friendly, but without feeling like a non stop party. The location was great beside a Metro station (you need to change lines from the city centre) or you can walk it through a park and through the musuem grounds. While I was there, you had to pay a deposit to be given cooking utensils, something I found rather odd. I guess it solves the problem of people not washing up or taking things. I liked the facilities and area. I would happily stay again. I have stayed in 20 youth hostels, and StayOkay Rotterdam was one of my favourites.

I stayed at this hostel for three nights, and I really enjoyed it there. It's about as central as can be expected. Rotterdam's downtown is really spread out so there's not really a "centre" per se, but the hostel is close enough to everything. It's also right next to a metro station, if you're too lazy to walk. The hostel was as clean and well-organized as one would expect from an HI Hostel, but surprisingly this hostel had decent atmosphere (if still a little institutional). The bar has a decent assortment of Dutch and Belgian beers, and the bartenders I met were all super nice and eager to chat. You can also order decent value meals, which is nice since the Netherlands are so bloody expensive. All in all, a good hostel.

this was a decent hostel and l met some interesting people there. l must warn you though, this is based on my memory from 2 years ago, since l've just got the idea to go back over my trip and rate all the hostels l stayed at in EU that are listed here! which is quite fun!

anyway, so l had a bit of a strange experience with this bulgarian guy one night, l'd gone to the loo l think, or something, and got back to my room and he's sleeping in my bed, obviously having just checked in! l think they must have stuffed up with their booking system. anyway so l go and get the night manager and he's helpful- tries to rouse the guy, who's a bit of a crybaby really, in his late twenties and so disorganised, he'd already bugged me for help earlier in the day, so it was quite strange that l should meet him again in this way late at night!

to make things easier for us all l ended up telling the night guy l'd just sleep in another room for the night, and l don't remember seeing the bulgarian guy again! the other interesting experience l had there was meeting a big group of french art students, and they invited me to go with them to this huge floating chinese restaurant, which was really nice cos l was lonely and suddenly the centre of attention of a bunch of lively arts students - well what else could they be, me having an afro the size of two basketballs and coming from Australia? anyhow so that was fun... also there's a cool little jazz bar up the street (right out the door and first right down the street).

big place with an impersonal receptionist (male), although the dude at the bar was cool, he recommended the jazz club.

good overall but l would have preferred something closer to down town, which l would try to arrange next time.

This hostel is in a good location, right outside a metro station, and all the facilities (rooms, bathrooms, breakfast, bar etc) were good, but the place lacks a little in atmosphere and character. I guess Rotterdam isn't top of anyone's list but nothing seemed to be happening here or anywhere in the city.

Nice place, clean rooms, friendly staff, but the place is dull. You can hang out in the lobby and watch paint peel while you drink your beer, or go to the TV room and watch bad US movies with Dutch subtitles.

The Hostel is in a good locale, there's a subway stop about a 1/2 minute walk away. It's also right near all the major museums and sights in town and an easy 15 min walk to downtown.

Showers were clean, nice and hot, the pressure was good too. Rotterdam pretty much shuts down around 8ish, so don't expect to find a happening nightlife. Avoid the Hostel internet, it's incredibly cheaper downtown at the EasyInternet store (right next to the Tourist Center).

The staff here make the place quite memorable, all are young and personable, and on the cute side too. Rotterdam's a chaotic place, fascinating but quite dodgy if you wander off the beaten track, and potentially even if you don't. The hostel's in a good spot, almost on a direct line down from the station, and within a few minutes' walk of a large park and some fine museums.

On the first evening there I somehow got embroiled in a series of draughts/checkers games against a Slovakian baseball team, which was fun - the front room is a combined foyer/restaurant/bar/reception/hang-out area, so it's a fair spot to get talking to other backpackers.

Though drugs aren't permitted on the premises, it doesn't stop the more dedicated smokers, and my room was full of passed-out morning stoners very early one afternoon. Lightweights. The bar serves good wine (and, presumably, good beer); the food was also pretty good, and served with a smile.

To cook for yourself, even get a bowl and spoon for a bowl of Weetabix, you have to pay a deposit or hand in a passport or similar item, but at least this means the stuff is there when you need it, and cleaner than it might otherwise be. There's air hockey, pool, arcade games (and the attendant hordes of hypercaffeinated kids), but the pleasant garden out the back is underused and offers a bit of relative peace and quiet, if you need some.

The bedroom I was in was an 8-bedder, and small with it. But the bed was strong enough, and clean sheets are of course supplied on arrival. You get your own key, which also serves as the front door key. Showers were fine, toilets a bit messy.

There's one internet station (1 euro for 12 minutes, unless you're on a HI or StayOkay site, in which case it's free), but 10 minutes' or so walk away you can get online for 2 euro and hour, so unless you want to pay extra for the convenience...

Breakfast was great - help yourself to orange juice, apple juice, coffee, tea, Corn Flakes, Fruit 'n' Fibre (or is it Healthwise?), white or brown bread, fruit, ham, cheese, crackers... in short, it provides an excellent opportunity to set yourself up for the first half of the day, nourishment-wise.

i found the accommodation excellent, the food good and the bar service fantastic. The staff really made my stay there truely enjoyable, and went out of their way to help.

I liked it so much...after seeing what i wanted to see in europe...i extended my stay another week and returned to the hostel...i reckon that in itself raps up the hostel:)))

I stayed here for three nights in early May 2002 on my way back from Eastern Europe. This was one of the cleanest, most comfortable hostels I experienced on my travels. Met some great people, had some memorable times and would definately recommend this. Make sure to book well in advance.

I stayed here for two nights in May. I stayed in an 8 bedded female dorm, though smaller rooms are available. I was very happy with my stay here and I would recommend this hostel to anyone. The dorm was clean and comfortable, with areas for storing luggage. The washrooms and toilets were on the corridor. Breakfast was excellent here, an extensive all you can eat breakfast buffet of cereals, fruit, bread, cheese, eggs, meat etc, plus some Dutch specialities like the sugar strands, local breads and cold meats, plus tea, coffee and fruit juice. The bar area is excellent - after 7pm, they sell a range of bar snacks. Internet access was not available at the time. There is a patio garden at the back, accessed from the basement.

The location is great. Although getitng here by metro from Centraalstation involves changing line, from the hostel most of the major musuems are just a short walk away. For a lovely walk into central Rotterdam, walk past the university building and hospital to the musuempark, cut through there, then cut across het park. This brings you to an old, green pleasnat neighbourhood by the old harbour. Walk towards the Erasmus bridge (you cannot miss it) and up the steps. You are then at the edge of the twon centre. Far more pleasant and interesting than the metro. You can see the major sights in a long day doing it this way.
