Never ever set foot in this place, I'd rather sleep rough than go there again, April 19, 2007
Reviewer: o0o000 from Crowborough, East Sussex, U.K.

Pros: Um...it's a boat, which is interesting for about five minutes
Cons: The owner, the filth, the crampedness, the heat, and the dogs, the reservation system, location

This is the worst hostel I have ever been to in my entire life. The directions to the boat were very poor and it took me over an hour to find it. When I eventually got there, I was greeted by the owners dog which kept barking and growling at me and wouldn't let me on the boat. When the receptionist eventually turned up, he was jaw-droppingly rude and said it my fault the dog was barking at me because "I was afraid of it." The computer for some reason deleted my reservation and although I had booked two nights there, I was only allowed there for one night. The rooms were completely squallid. The sink was blocked, the beds were tiny and cramped, there was water all over the floor, and I saw a little cockroach scuttle across it. The room was also extremely hot, even though it was a mild day outside. Fortunately, I didn't spend long on this boat. The surly receptionist threw me out of the hostel because "I made a nasty comment about the dog" which was still barking and growling at me. I was very angry about this at first but actually he did me a favour. I went to another hostel in Rotterdam and slept in decent, clean accomodation for a lower price. I know the novelty of sleeping in a boat is a strong one, indeed that was the reason I booked it in the first place, but this place is absolutely awful. There's another Hostel Boat in Lubeck in Germany that is very pleasent and much better quality than this place. I've been to many hostels and this is by far the worst, and it's extremely expensive too. It should be avoided at all costs.

I experienced many hostels in Europe and this is certainly one of the worst! I'm sorry but I must admit that the crew isn't so friendly as described. We were there the last year (summer 2005).

We (me and my friends) had a problem with the bathroom (the water began to flow outside) and the chef shouted to us "go away, you little bastards".

The rooms were very narrow (it's difficult to move without making noise in the night), even for a boat (try Jugendgästeschiff in Rostock, the rooms are 5 times bigger - with their own bathroom!)

And the prices were too high!

Yes, the breakfast is abundant and that's why I gave two stars, but nothing else!

Avoid if possible!

Tell me again why did I pay more to sleep there? I went there to include the experience of sleeping on a boat to my Europe experience. Even though the staff was friendly, this was not worth the money paid for it. The negatives are more than the positives. Was a lot happier with the less expensive hostel.

Slept here for a few days and had a great time. Friendly people that helped me find a few very nice places to go. It's location in right in the centre, you can walk anywhere. The phone number has changed though; +31 (0) 53314244. I enquired about the "floating hostel"-thing mentioned above, and it was confirmed this is indeed discontinued due to lack of interest. But that really doesn't matter, as it is as great a place to sleep when it is not sailing as when it is sailing!
