I've stayed in many hostels in Europe and this hostel is definitely amongst the mediocre. The room I stayed in (a 10-bed dorm) was cramped to the point that only two people could stand up in the space between the beds at any one time. Horrid stains on the mattresses and the room was generally dirty and squalid. The staff did not have my reservation even though I had confirmed it by E-Mail, telephoned them two nights before and arrived at exactly the time I said I would. Free food... but only enough room in the kitchen for one person at any one time and only enough room for six people at the table. The hostel was not in a very nice part of Utrecht, either, and was about 30mins from the centre of town. I wasn't a fan of the atmopshere, either... if you want somewhere to doss around in whilst you're stoned, it's okay, otherwise you'll find yourself with a lot of time on your hands... not a solo traveller's hostel. I don't really have anything good to say about it... other than that 12 a night makes it fairly cheap. I'd definitely advise looking for other places

one of the bests and familiarests hostels in fucking europe. I was the first days in the strowis, which is a absolut administrative runned hostel. But in the b and b you feel like in a real backpacker place. nice people nice staff, a lot of Instruments and free eating all the day . the decoration is also like in a sqad house. i realy love that place and this atmospaere. so if you are a real hitchhiker you have to see this place.

I went there to work and after one week I had to leave. There is lots of free food sure but the food is all out of date.To hide this the food is taken out of the packets when put in the fridge. All the tins have the ,use by date, scratched off.. I kid you not, go there if you dare! The rooms down stairs are damp and smell it.... The pipes on the second floor always leak.. 3 times in as many days I woke up with the sound of dripping.. There are many other Hostels in Utrecht, alot closer to the city.. I dont know what the condition of Lucus is like but it is owned by the same people.. Beware and if you do go please don't eat the free food....

So impressed by the free food and free internet thing- its just like a huge flat where you can help yourself to food in the kitchen any time of day! Each room has a shower and a TV. The staff are really friendly- mostly backpackers themselves working for free accomodation. And its not hard to find at all!! Its just off a huge street called Amsterdamstraatweg. About the 10th St on the left if you're coming from the roundabout.

My friend and I stayed here only one night, so we really didn't get the feel of the place, but it seemed okay. There were several computers with free internet. The sheets/pillows/blankets weren't included, so I thought I'd tough it out with just my sleep sack -- bad idea -- it was *cold*!

If you're going to stay here, make sure you know where you're going before you arrive. We got into town late at night and couldn't find the street on the map. No one we asked had ever heard of it or the place or the street. We tried to call the hostel, but they weren't very helpful. We were finally so desparate we just took a taxi from the train station. We found out the next morning that we could have taken a bus...so do your research!

There was free food, like the other reviewers said, and even though we didn't try it, the other people in the room seemed pretty happy with it.

I'm sorry guys, but we went to this hotel last August and we couldn't stay there because it was horrible! When we got there (by bike, it wasn't easy at all... nobody knew that street!), a group of 5 people were staring at us, laughing and talking in Russian between them. That was the best welcome ever, after some days of biking around the Netherlands. I stayed outside and my boyfriend went inside to take a look. It had no lockers and it looked dirty. We were very disappointed, specially because we had read in this website of it being so nice! The review in this website said it had plenty computers with free Internet connection. Yes! it had computers, but they were all piled to be mended! The people in that hostel weren't friendly at all, so we left (although it was 19h and we had nowhere to sleep!).
