I've been there now already 3 times and every time was great!Very good atmosphere, nice place to stay and very friendly staff.Especially for alternative and environment-conscious people it is a very warm place to stay there. Utrecht is a lovely town!Go there and meet the real Dutch people. Good people. Many greetings, Mariana

If you want a true-to-life Dutch City experience you go to Utrecht. The town has a great vibe; not touristy at all, nor too crowded, but those who are there to have fun definitely do so. This place is very central, around the corner from a good coffeeshop and a caribbean dance club, near a couple canals. The common areas are a big reason to go. The indoor one has classic furniture and a good, relaxed feel while outdoors there are lots of tables and chairs and a garden. You can drink your own beers and outside, smoke your own doje until 2am. Rooms were clean, towels are free, linen is 1.50 extra but the 13 euro price is great by Dutch standards. It was the biggest dorm, though. 6 bed dorms cost 15 I think. Staff was really friendly and helpful, downstairs fridge worked fine for beers..I don't know about the kitchen but it looked OK.Reserve a couple days in advance in case there are groups.

Strowis has a coffeehouse atmosphere (emphasis on the COFFEE but not without the other connotations). It is a laidback comfy place with a beautiful landscaped garden. The staff are friendly, but they need some help on the organization side. Lots of people, myself included, had to change rooms if they stayed more than one night. With so many people moving, I suspect their booking system just needs some improvements. They make an attempt to have single-sex dorms if you so desire it, but that doesn't always work out either... Bathrooms are plentiful and pretty clean. The free internet is just one computer with VERY slow access. The town of Utrecht is also a plus. It is is pretty city that gives you more of an idea of everyday Holland and is more affordable than Amsterdam. It is centrally located, so day trips to Amsterdam, The Haag, or just about anywhere else are no problem.

With 4 tired children we hit Strowis in a bad frame of mind thanks to the French rail strike. And what a pleasant surprise. Great staff, interesting concept, clean facilities(though the fridge downstairs a pain!)fabulous causes, pleasant garden, cheap eats and drinks at the ACU, games for the kids, a wonderful safe environment, even a guitar to play and impromptu sessions! All in all, we can only recommend with the highest of praises to keep up the good work! And Utrecht, what a wonderful place full of history and vital energy!

A great atmosphere, good dorms (though they do add E1.25 for sheet hire per night - bring your own) and a great cafe/common room with free internet. The only down side is that if you're here for any length of time, you may have to move elsewhere as they only allow you to stay 14 days in every 3 months.Great staff, and a lot of charity work here too - a hostel with real social conscience. So chilled they even let me celebrate my birthday with the friends I'd met at the hostel. PS Utrecht is such an great place I now live here!

The hostel staff is very friendly and accomodating. I arrived while they were closed but they let me store my stuff and reserve a bed. It is clean and comfortable. They are also committed to being environmentally conscious and socially responsible. The internet access was free (a nice change from coin-op machines that eat money!). The common room doubled as lounge and dining room, with tables, chairs, and couches. I didn`t try the breakfast (5 euros) because I was on a tight budget, but heard that it was very good. All in all, it`s a good price and a warm atmosphere. Also easy to find (just ask any of the friendly people on the street for "Janskerkhof" and they`ll send you in the right direction!).
