My 23 yr old son and I stayed here in August 2006. We arrived on the big parade day (Aug 12) and were invited by hostel staff to go with them to watch the parade through the old walled part of the city. Very impressive with plexiglas barricades and shoulder-to-shoulder police lining the parade route, in case of trouble. There wasn't any, at least where we were. The co-ed dorm was fairly clean, the beds good, en suite bathroom convenient. The rest of the hostel was a bit of a mess. New managers were just taking over and had plans for updating and improving the facilities, so by now there may be big improvements. Kitchen was big, but not well stocked with utensils -- almost no dishtowels, for example. Location was easy to find on a side street off the main road into town.

This hostel has very cramped rooms and not enough bathroom facilities. The rooms don't have locks and the whole place looks like is falling apart. Breakfast is from 7-10 but if you get there any time after 8 its all gone. They advertise free internet but its not actually free. I would never stay in this hostel again, but the staff where super friendly.

Spent one night in Paddy's Hostel. Found it to be very clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Welcoming atmosphere. Not quite enough toilet facilities for all the guests, but we managed. The breakfast and tea/coffee available were quite good, and the common area is cosy and condusive to relaxing and meeting people. The night I was there, even with a stag party, it was quiet enough to sleep at night - and the bonus is it's still close enough to Derry's pubs, etc., if you want to do some late night partying. Just be warned that the rooms with the larger number of beds (e.g. 6 bed dorm) tend to be very cramped, with little space to move between the beds. The 4 bed ones looked much more spacious. This is one of the best I've stayed in out of the Paddy's chain.
