Downhill Hostel is a big mansion right on the seafront that sleeps up to 26 travellers and two cats. It features a cosy lounge with an open fire and sea views, a dining room and a fully equipped kitchen with a big selection of herbs and spices. Downhill really is the perfect hostel for those who like quiet country hostels.

The location is stunning. Located next to miles of cliffs, as well as a sandy beach and the Mussenden Castle/Palace/Temple complex (which was free).

It is on the main road and well sign-posted, so its easy to find , yet Downhill is a tiny town, and it felt like I was miles away from civilization.

Had all the basic features, plus a laundry. Showers were also nice. They had plenty of pressure and hot water (which seems to be rare at many hostels). It was also the least expensive I found in Northern Ireland.

The owner was wonderfull. Gave me a complete tour, and was always helpful when I had questions. THe building was also very nice. Apparently, its very old with a long history.

If I was to find fault, it would be with the town of Downhill. There is no town, as Downhill consists of a couple of houses. So there is no grocery stores, and you will need to stock up before getting here.
