We found Ricks to be a lovely place to stay a night. The rooms were spacious and clean, as was the bedding. The bathrooms were pretty clean, the showers were hot but some of them didnt have great pressure. The staff friendly and it was cheap at £9 a night for the dorm room. Would definately recommend, however Portstewart is a nice place, but its not exactly a party town (we were there on Good Friday though)

This is not the type of hostel that confines you to a narrow bed or expects you to buy their beer in their disco. First, this place is roomy--with comfortable sitting room with tv and books, kitchen for cooking, storage for your food, and dining area to eat, chat, and plan your trips. Also, there are no rules like--no access from 10am-4pm, no outside beer because you must buy our own overpriced stuff, or only cash in advance.

Rick and Gosia have been running this hostel themselves for 15 years, so they have it down to a science and they can help you plan your daytrips. But they also really like doing what they do, so you'll get a welcoming cup of tea when you arrive, and you'll feel like someone cares about you and not merely your money.

I've stayed here in 1998, 2001, 2002, and 2003--they're good people who have a warm, efficient, and well-located hostel on the raging North Atlantic not far from a few pubs, stores, and a great Indian restuarant!

Rick is a wonderful hosteler. An excellent host with a warm and friendly hostel. The hostel is convenient to the bus routes. The kitchen is well stocked and the rooms are clean and comfortable. Rick's hostel is one of the reasons that Portstewart is a wonderful place to stay. I have been there four times. It is good for families, and for those traveling alone. From the cookies and tea when he meets his guest to the camaraderie as he stokes the fire each evening, this hostel is a home away from home.
