This place was the best in all of Europe! The staff was more than accomodating, and showed me the entire facility--including free laundry! The common area was very large and offered snacks, games, and internet anytime. The rooms were clean, showers fantastic (each was housed in its own tiny locked room), and had a perfect location. Sure, the guy in my room snored horribly, but that's to be expected sometimes. This hostel was unbelievable; if only they were all this good.

I love this hostel and had such a wonderful time here it was a wrench to leave. The staff are brilliant the rooms are comfortable and have safety lockers for your rucksack. The best thing about the place for me was the people I met there. I made so many friends there as it is a very sociable hostel.

The layout of the hostel is fantastic as you have to walk through the social area to get to reception and through the kitchen to get to the toilets and can't help but meet people.

Location is perfect and central although never heard much noise from outside at nights. Thanks again Mamas for a brilliant hostel experience.. I'll definitely be back!!!

A fairly modern, clean hostel with bonuses of free laundry and internet.

Booking system needs to be improved... we were told to move rooms for our last night, then only after we had packed up and left that room did they tell us we didn't have to move anymore!

This is such a lovely hostel! The kitchen is fab nice and big and sociable. This hostel seems to have a nightlife of its own! Stayed up in the small hours and did not feel like i was disturbing anyone. Its not even two minutes from the main square its like 2 seconds! The staff realy are fantastic, my friend lost her bag and the reception guy wudn't settle till hed helped her find it(which she eventually did!)!

i recommend the coffee shop across the road, sells the best cappachinos!

I stayed here with about 16 mates in mid-June and not one of us complained about anything. Staff were amazingly helpful and tolerant...especially as I spent a lot of time talking the hind legs off them!! Location is as good as you can get and facilities are second to none. It's very clean, very bright, very comfortable and well stocked with drinks and complimentary tea/coffee and other stuff. Free internet access (although only one PC) and the staff (oh the staff) are so helpful (again) and knowledgeable. I can't fault this place at all.

EXCEPT: Stairs...

Mama's was a fantastic hostel and I would definitely recommend it to anyone. It has a great location, being two minutes from the old town square and thus five minutes from the train and bus stations. Walked past a few other hostels in my wanderings and they were definitely further away.

More importantly the staff there are fantastic - they always went out of their way to help me. For example, I asked where I could get a bus timetable to the airport, response: "give me five minutes and I'll look it up for you".

Plus free internet and laundry, brekkie is included, no check out time and everyday they update the board for recommended night spots.

Smallish hostel without a bar but comfy living room, a balcony and size made it easy enough to meet others if that is what you were after (I was travelling alone)

Honestly one of the best hostels I have stayed in - and I've stayed in a lot!

The good:

- the staff here was excellent. Really very nice, very on the ball and knowledgeable

- the place is cosy and comfortable, especially for a city Hostel

- the bathrooms were very clean, as were the rooms

- the rooms with big, high ceilings and not overpacked with beds, not even the 10-bed dorm I stayed was big for the number of beds in there

- one machine in lounge w/free internet

- nice comfy lounge overall

- washing machine and dryer for guest use

- the location is super-central with restaurants bars and clubs right downstairs

The minuses

- is on the 3rd or 4th floor of a building with very high celings and NO elevator. This is NOT an appropriate residence for the disabled or even an older person who has a heavy bag/luggage

- the location is super central (yes I know I'm repeating myself). It is literally on top of a disco/nightclub which stays open late (not much vibrations from below though, it was more an issue of noise out their window). The street below has more bars and clubs. So on a summer night you have a Hobson's choice: opening the window and getting AIR and NOISE, or shutting them and getting neither. Needless to say its not right to force such a collective choice on 10 strangers!

- They could at least have had ceiling fans or something, to alleviate that issue in the summer. They didn't. A hostel is a place where you probably spend 90% of your time in bed. You do need to be able to sleep comfortably. So I gotta dock them major points from 4.5 stars to 3. Sorry.

BTW this rating relates to summer weekends. It might be less of an issue on a quiet Tuesday in Februrary. At sucha time I would not hesitate to stay in this hostel. But I really will not be caught out in a suana in the summer again, especially one that could be avoided with something so simple as having fans in the rooms.

Mama's has all the qualities you want in a hostel. It's clean, has friendly and helpful staff, it's central & has a great atmosphere. They even have a signed photo of all four Beatles! Highly recommended. Can't wait to go back again this year.

My only complaint is the struggle i faced having to press the button in the showers to keep the water going. Free laundry and internet, and a great location make this a backpackers paradise. Comfortable and sturdy beds are a huge plus. Add a group of awesome roommates (though they didn't add to the five star rating) and you are guaranteed a good time. the staff were helpful and very accomadating to all that saught shelter. This is the place to be.

This is the best hostel I've stayed at, though that's only about 5 or 6 of them. Compared with Come Inn in Budapest where I stayed the following week, it's the Ritz. Friendly faces and people, great converstaion anytime day or night, free internet, AMAZING location, etc etc. I can't recommend this place enough.
