Every room in the Rising Cock has a name, and we stayed in Suite 69. Each of the 4 beds in our room had a name to go with the theme, such as cowgirl and missionary. This was the kind of atmosphere of the place: fun, and maybe a bit juvenile. We had a private bathroom that could have been a bit cleaner, but that's really my only complaint. We were here in November, apparently one day too late for the nice weather, so the place wasn't packed. But there were still bar trips every night, and hung-over backpackers lounging on the couch in the huge common room the next day. The nutella crepes and lemon tea are delicious. Lagos is a beautiful town, just not so happening in November. Definitely make your way to the grottos, the staff will let you know how to get there.

Rising Cock is a great hostel to relax and get some sun during the day and party hard at night., May 28, 2007

Pros: Mama's homemade crepes and lemon tea breakfast.

Rising Cock is definitely a Party Hostel. It has a great location in Lagos, close to beautiful beaches and great night clubs and bars. The young backpackers that pass through here are friendly and fun to get to know. Everyone hangs out together in the common room and on the terrace before heading out to the bars at night. In the morning, "Mama" makes crepes served with all kinds of toppings (like Nutella!) and homemade lemon tea. During the day, you can catch some rays at the beaches, do day trips like surfing, kayaking and mountain biking, or grab a spot on the big comfy couch in the common room and take advantage of the 500 gig hard drive, full with movies and music. Overall, Rising Cock has a relaxing and fun atmosphere, and many backpackers end up staying longer than planned!

What a great hostel ! Perfect for the traveller who want's to have a great time and meet some awsome people. A rep met my buddy and I at the train station with a bag full of beer, and guided us through the beautiful streets back to the hostel. Happened to be their 2 year annivarsary. Free beer and sangaria all night. The staff were great, Mario is an exceptional host. Always making sure you are having a great time. There's a common room with TV/DVD, PS2, free internet, balcony with BBQ, full kitchen. And all for about 20 Euros/night. It's close to the beach and all the fun bars/pubs in town. They're very relaxed there. Returned one night from the pubs and everyone was sleeping in the common room, must have been 20 of them. Trust me, you'll go for 2 days and want to stay forever. I am going to return to Lagos next year just to stay at this hostel again !!!

Rising Cock is a good place to stay for those who want to party and meet drunken people. With all positive (fun) and negative (sick people in your room) aspects of it.

The staff is very friendly. In march I paied 15 Euros for a bed in 4 bed dorm so the price above seem to be from last year. Or I should have asked for a cheaper price.

If you are not interested in having a party-crowd all the time around you you should NOT go there. If you are in your early 20s, interested in alcohol, fun and meeting people like you: go there!

There's party at a lot of bars etc in Lagos, so it's maybe better to stay at a quiet place and go out in the evenings.

Located in the city centre of Lagos, the Rising Cock is situated at a convenient stroll from the beach as well as being in the heart of the famous Lagos nightlife. Surrounded by great pubs and bars further enhancing ones stay. Thus the Rising Cock preaches the common backpacker lifestyle that encourages lounging around by the beach during the day, and partying all through the night. The hostel itself is clean and cozy and feels more like ones apartment rather than a mere hostel. Adding to this environment, most notably, the young friendly staff, who are always willing to help, whether it be from friendly advise to personally interacting and socialising with their guests, making for an extremely memorable stay. The Rising Cock has been by far my favourite hostel in Europe, you will know what I mean once you leave... if you actually do!!!
