This hostel was among my favorites in Europe. I stayed at this hostel for two nights in April 2005. The hostel is a bit away from Lisbon (if that's where your main activities are). My primary interest was to sightsee in Lisbon, however, still enjoyed the location because the train runs frequently and it is also on the way to the beautiful city, Sintra (less than 3 Euro by bus). Other reviewers did superb jobs describing how you can get there. I followed Katie Biggs' directions, and they worked well. Still with the good directions, I was a bit confused at the bottom of the hill (from the train station). I just asked for McDonald's, and people were able to point me to the right direction. You should do the same. The hostel is beautiful. A nice tile floor in the living room area where people congregate and chat. The bedroom comes with individual lockers, which are huge! My sister did not bring a lock (you should bring one), so we packed two backpacks into one locker with no problem. Each bed comes with an individual reading light, so you won't have to worry about writing your journal late at night. What I loved about this hostel is its member's kitchen. Awesome! It has everything you need to fix a quick dinner. It provides pans, plates, utensils, seasonings, dish soap, refrigerator, table and chairs for you to sit. This kitchen does not only help you save money but also make friends. When my sister and I arrived at the kitchen, several of other guests were just about to start their dinner, and they kindly invited us to join. For the two nights we stayed there, as soon as returning from sightseeing in Lisbon, we rushed to the kitchen and enjoy nice conversations with people. This place provided us with such wonderful memories. Everything is great about this hostel with one common issue. School groups. Fortunately, I was not affected as much as other guests during the stay. However, other guests that I talked to said that they could not get restful sleep due to kids running around and talking loud into wee hours. I am sure that this issue is not completely avoidable at any hostels. My experience at this hostel was so wonderful that I am sure to return someday soon.

This is surely the cheapest option for a beachfront vacation in Europe. This hostel is right on the waterfront, with sandy beaches a short walk in either direction. I can't believe how cheap it was; I was there at the beginning of October, and I paid only 8,50 Euros. It can't be too much more in high season. The only real problem with the place is finding it. From Lisbon, you take the train from Cais do Sodré, and get off at Oeiras. There are then two exits, one for the beach (Praia) and another for something else (I don't remember). DO NOT take the beach exit. I know that sounds wrong, but trust me, it is much less complicated if you take the other direction. Go down the hill, and follow the road until you get to the get to the highway with the waterfront on the other side. From there, find the nearest underpass, walk under it, and join up with the boardwalk that runs along the beachfront. Then turn right, and walk until you find the hostel. You can't miss it, the boardwalk runs right in front of it. Should be a 10 minute walk once you hit the water.

Excellent hostel to stay in, the rooms are cleaned every day (you have stay out between 11am and 4pm unless you ask to stay). When you arrive in Lisbon you need to get to the train station called Cais De Sodre in the centre of Lisbon (take the bus from the airport), then take the train to Oerias (about 15mins). Its quite hard to find the hostel but the easiest way is if you come out Oerias train station on the beach side, turn left and walk down the hill, cross over the two roads and head towards the beach. You'll see a MacDonalds on your right and then take the underpass so you are on the beachpath. Turn right and keep walking along the pedestrian path, you'll walk past some rockpools and the hostel is just before you come to the outdoor swimming pool with diving boards. Its about a 15/20min walk. You will find a quicker way when you get there but at first take this route. You also get breakfast and a packed lunch everyday included with the price. I highly recommend this hostel and would definately go again.

From Cais do Sodré (Keyser Soze) train station go to Oeiras. Then have a map because this is a devil of a place to find. I spent over an hour walking with my pack after the station attendant told me "just go towards the beach, it's 5 minutes walking and easy to find". That ranks among the greatest bullguano i've heard in my life. The place is in the Inatel plaza, the gate for which you find near a freeway underpass next to a small auto roundabout. From the gate you walk 5 minutes towards the back and you'll find this place on the beach next to some tide pools. All told it's 15 minutes walking from Oeiras station. The place is the perfect hostel except for the 11-4 lockout, but they usually let you in at 3 if you need to sleep. No curfew, decent breakfast, and a nice kitchen w/fridge in back to cook yo food and drinkus yo licka. They also have a small bar with cheap coffee, beer and snacks and serve good 5 euro pizzas. The place is spotless, rooms have 4 beds, and the views from almost every window are extraordinary. There's also a nice little plaza outdoors with tables to relax on a sunny day. Check it out.Main problem is the distance to Lisbon- all together it takes about 45 minutes to get to/from.

It is a great hostel just outside Lisboa, clean toilets and rooms, friendly and helpful staff, cheap, located on the beach, less than 10min walk to train station, 20min by train to centre Lisboa (1.05 Euro one way, from 5:30am-1:30am), 15 euros if you take taxi during night (we were 4, so it wasn't expensive to return at 6am by taxi), on the other side, 10 minutes to estoril and cascais, great but not that cheap night life...

Stayed here July 2003 3 nights. After a night at PT Lisbon I wondered what to expect! The building and rooms were clean, as were the showers and toilets. Staff were mainly friendly and spoke good english. Beach was close by as was the pool and it was also easy to walk to a small local shopping centre. Bar was cheap although if you don't drink beer you're stuffed! They also sell pizza - really worth the 5 euros when you arrive tired and hungry. Great view, good sized rooms with lockers, easy access to Lisbon centre. Also train and metro tickets are very cheap (compared to UK). Would definitely stay there again!
