I thought this was a very nice hostel indeed. One of the best I have stayed at. Unfortunately I think they have spoiled me...no hostel could have as many extras like this. For one, the five euro home cooked dinners every night were great! They had an authentic Portuguese chef who comes in and cooks three nights of the week, and the other nights its excellent as well. MMM Eggplant Parmesan with Bruchetta and Tirimisu for dessert? Wow. I couldn't have tasted better in a restaurant. Some nights there were not enough slots for people who wanted to eat though...so sign up early! If you miss dinner there is a slew of cheap restaurants close by. Some are even OK for solo diners as well. As in, it wouldn't be awkward if you ate alone there. The enclosed outside terrace they have there really made the stay. During and after dinner most people go down there to talk and order drinks from Hula Hoops, the little bar they have going on there. Don't get me wrong though...its not party city with drunken buffoons running all over the place. Its a very chill sort of terrace. You can meet loads of travelers if you want, or you can stay in your bunk and read a book if meeting fellow travelers isn't your thing...I mean, thats why you are staying at a hostel right? I really felt this hostel was a great place to meet other people. I travel by myself a lot so that feature is important to me. The place itself is pretty nice too. There is a nice common room with free wifi and two computers with free internet. The internet is horribly slow and sometimes it's hard to get on a computer. I would use the wifi to check emails but not much else. My four bed room was pretty spacious and clean. It had two big windows that could be shut so no light could enter in the morning and wake you up. The rooms were kept clean by a cleaning lady every day. If you are staying there longer, it would not be a problem if you needed a change of sheets. They have a kitchen and a fridge so you can store your food. Also they have pots and pans for you to use, as well as silverware and glasses and mugs. There is even a lift for your massive backpacks and suitcases and maybe there will be enough room for you if you are the slender type.Breakfast is OK. Free too. The hostel usual...toast, butter, jams, milk, coffee, tea, cereal and sometimes waffle mix and a waffle iron...I burned my waffles horribly though. Breakfast is until 1130 which is great for the late sleepers and late night revelers. However they don't guarantee anything will be left....you can probably nosh on some toast though. My gripes about this place would be the showers and the noise. There were only two showers in the main building I was in. ( I believe there is a total of three buildings in all ) The showers do have hot water all the time and they have a lovely shower head as well. No push buttons or claustrophobic stalls. Great after a long hike up and down the Lisbon hills. They can get very grungy though. One shower was constantly clogged so other people's hair and body grime were washing over my shower-shoed feet. If you take showers during the night you might not have this problem. However you might have a very long wait time in the AM around 9-12. Some nights the noise can get out of hand. If you plan on going to sleep early, like 9-12, do bring earplugs to this one. So this ends my review of Lisboa Oasis Backpacker's Mansion. Its a Four-Star Hostel, for real! The price isn't bad either. :)
(By the way, I don't work there either :) )
